Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

We're constantly having to restart our router and the service often goes off completely for periods of time.

Any suggestions for a decent service that I can use instead?

I've been with BT for years and only once lost broadband for a few hours.

Built-in firewall and virus protection.

I wouldn't want to change.

Thanks v helpful

I just checked which? magazine for you and their No. 1 is Zen internet.

Utility Warehouse comes 2nd. https://www.utilitywarehouse.co.uk/

Plus Net are 3rd but given the crap service my Mum has had from them, I'd be reluctant to recommend them,

Thanks - I think the local review is quite important as well as the national level review though.

I'm a local Zen user and they're fine. The only times there have been outages have been down to BT Openreach infrastructure, and Zen are good at reporting status on those (if you've a smartphone to access their website). Not the cheapest, but I'm still with them after 10 years. Their technical help is very good too.

I've been a frustrated Virgin Media customer for quite a few years. It's a very patchy service. You can be experiencing problems whilst your near neighbour has whizzing speeds. I went through a very bad patch when the situation became untenable, but just as I was about to sign up to another supplier, it got better.

The issue for Virgin seems to be upgrading their infrastructure to cope with surging demand. The issue for many of Virgin's customers is that when it works, it's simply the best value high speed internet available.

The service you need depends in part on how much data you need to move around. For my work I need a service that can shift around high volumes of data (both upload and download) without the risk of any usage-related capping.

For me, Virgin's cost and performance always just about manage to trump its competitors for the time being.

I've added a virgin media tag beneath your post. Click that to see more posts, some of which have suggestions for alternative suppliers.

Just to illustrate your point, my virgin bb is very reliable! I wonder if it's related to a particular exchange or infrastructure node ?

Hugh, have you managed to resist any of the price increases over the last couple of years? I've been meaning to ring them to seek a better deal. What annoys me most is paying for a landline and never using it.

I can't remember when I last spoke to them about price. I do so periodically. I think you can just drop the landline if you don't use it. Worth talking with them about it anyway.

I dumped my landline. And got my speed reduced to 50Mb. Bill halved to around 27 quid.

Ace, thanks Hugh v helpful reply

I've had BT Infinity for a few years now, and tho its not the cheapest, its fast and any problems are quickly sorted on phone which is quickly answered.
