Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

i think I saw one playing on the fence near Manor House. I thought it was a baby squirrel but its markings were totally different - with very marked stripes running along its back.

The only thing I've found that looks like it is a chipmunk, which apparently can live wild in the UK according to this report:

Any other sightings?!

Cool!!!!
Some people keep them as pets so they could be escapees. That's how we ended up with the park parakeet mob!

'A colony of 13,000 poisonous yellow-tailed scorpions has been established in a brick wall at Sheerness, Kent' ... yikes!

I remember a programme on TV maybe 20 years ago about there being scorpions living on the platform of Ongar station...my friend was in a punk band at the time and they wrote a song about it...

I've seen one there, by Seven Sisters Road. A nice addition, though don't know how it'll impact the native fauna. It scampered off before I could get a picture, but was definitely a chipmunk.

As long as Alvin and his chums are few and far between they probably won't have a great impact. I think there are enough factors to keep them in check; foxes, cats and cars etc.

I've found some news about UK Chipmunks in the Telegraph from just two days before you posted, Alison. It reports that they may be carriers of Lyme's disease and explains that they may have reached us by the Channel Tunnel. (Thank God Farrage didn't pick up on the prior to the referendum!).

Yes- I saw this little fellow going in and out of the bins by Manor House station. I'm pretty sure it's a Siberian chipmunk like the one's in the article referenced by Hugh. After a bit of googling I reported the sighting here: http://www.nonnativespecies.org/factsheet/factsheet.cfm?speciesId=3472

But goodness me, they are cute!
They are!

Yes, that's the very thing I saw! So glad you posted this - from the reaction I got from friends I thought I was losing the plot .. Yes, very cute.

I just reported it via Jennie's website - according to which there haven't been any sightings in London, but a confirmed one near Horley (and various unconfirmed sightings outside London).
