Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Harringay's open space ... is now called Fairlands ... but we need your help ......!!

Last summer the children at North and South Harringay Schools held a competition/elections to rename the open space between Falkland & Fairfax Rds on 'the ladder'. They decided on 'Fairlands'.

The name Fairlands is not up for a changing (as the children of the area have made their choice) so please respect this.

What we now need to decide is whether it should be known as a 'park', or a 'green', or indeed an 'open space'. Let us know what you think here.

Thank you

1- Fairland Park

2- Fairland Green

3- Fairland Open Space

FAXLAND has a ring to it that i like.
James is on to something. But so is John D.

The name has to suggest green-&-pleasantness, preferably something poetic and maybe with historical echoes. While at the same time it needs to fit modern categories of projects which continue to get substantial public funds.

How about Wild Thyme Bank?
easy Alan - " Inclusivity Inch "

(Inch - low lying meadow beside a river )

:-)
I like Open Space. It sounds urban and is reflective of where we live.

(Fairlands???)
That is exactly why I went for park, green is nicer sounding but it isn't a green by any urban or rural standards. Newington Green may well be fenced off around the perimetre but it has a 'green' feel to it and its about ten times the size. I'm not against the term green, but to me it doesn't describe the space.

Fairlands is the choice that has been chosen by the local kids so we should respect that and build on it.
Think this website needs to have the kids of the area of here as well.

They'd no doubt have some quick answers to the witty comments found elsewhere on here!
Supermarket!

Sorry Matt, I respect that this is their choice, but question the guidance given to them. Out of interest, what were the other choices?

That aside, I'd go for Green if that helps.
Their choice was their creativity ... as led by Groundwork & the Council's Community Development team, in partnership with the schools. I personally wasn't involved.
I'm with Alan on the need for green-&-pleasant historical echoes with a touch of global exoticism. So 'La Isla Malvina' or even 'Goose Green' might be right for a kiddies' yomping ground. And think how chuffed Maggie would be. She might even send her diplomatic daughter to declare it open.
with regard to 'goose green' as a name. i think a falklands vet may shudder.
also did you know they've just discovered oil at the falkland isles.
does this have a bearing on the discussion ?

taking into account the islands' main population how about PENGUIN PARK.
If the children were asked, and came up with the name "Fairlands" we should respect that.

Otherwise it looks like a Ken Livingstone exercise - Consult, Ignore result, Do what you intended to all along.

Or are we trying to show the children how democracy really works in practice ?
it's a discussion john which erm.. you are contributing to.
