Weed smoking neighbours

My neighbours are smoking the strongest skunk known to man. It's not the smoking that I mind per se, live and let live and all that, but the smell is constantly in my flat as I have the windows open when I'm home during the summer months. I don't really know them other than a nod in the street, and it is an HMO, not sure how to tackle this but it's starting to annoy me a bit. Also could it be making my cat stoned? He doesn't do much anyway but he seems a bit more chilled out than usual.

I know, but I'm not talking about giving him blowbacks or anything like that! it's just drifting in from next door so I didn't think concentrated enough to have an effect. Must be really strong because you can smell it as you walk up the street. It is attracting a lot of attention on our road which I don't think is a good thing.

Maybe just a casual "You know I can smell your weed so probably others passing in the street can too" might make them realise how obvious they are being!

It's a fine line to tread complaining to a neibour, then following up with official action, (which they won't apreciate,) an arms distance approach may be an idea, but it's your call as to what may be appropriate.

If their behaviour is anti-social, inconsiderate, hostile & affecting the wider road, it may be worth getting guidance from our Safer Neibourhood Team.

My friend moved to a new building where a lot of weed smoking was going on. She was very pleased by how chilled out her cat became!

I'd say Michael Anderson's suggestion is the best so far. 

I assume you've no way of contacting the landlord? Persistent smells can legally be a 'nuisance', so you could contact environmental health. They would probably contact the police.

Also, there's no way of knowing the precise health consequences for the cat and yourself.

Fortunately the agent had a sign attached to the outside of the property for some time advertising their HMO, so I was able to call them by googling the company. Words have been had, they said it will stop.

I don't want to grass them up to the police. I have "had a word" as it was making me feel nauseous and stinking my flat out and making my clothes stink.

Occasionally I get sick of a group of young men who hang out right outside my flat smoking weed (or more commonly, dealing it). Sometimes I call the police, normally when I'm expecting a visitor (like my mother) who might feel intimidated by having to ask them for access to my flat. One day I was having a really bad day and shouted at them a bit (one of them had littered a juice packet in my front garden along with the usual little plastic bags). Haven't seen them since!
