Channels disappearing from Freeview tv
Has anyone had this experience recently? Each time I try to retune my elderly tv it still comes up only with BBC1,2 and 4 and a load of others I don't want when I do want 3,4,5 and Film 4. I've just contacted that at800 service (which was to do with interference from 4G signals) but their stuff says very few London households were affected.
I wanted to see if I could fix it before calling someone out.

I have had this at various times. I just keep retuning until they come back. I think atmospherics interfere.

Yes - it's nothing to do with that as all the other channels have also disappeared... mainly the commercial ones.

Assuming you have a freeview box attached to your 'elderly' tv it could be the box that is playing up. Probably worth treating yourself to a new (so-called Smart) tv where freeview is incorporated within the unit.

Thanks - it's not a box, I can just access it but I will be getting a new tv at some point. But this kind of artificially created obsolescence is what I have worked to avoid all my life!

I had this exact problem at my mother's, you may have a depleted signal strength due to a faulty aerial or coax feed, it is unlikely to be the TV. Check the signal strength (in the menu) on a working channel, if it is less than good then that is the cause. In my mother's case it was a new block of flats blocking the signal. I originally thought that being digital you either got all-or-nothing but it is actually dependant on individual channel signal strength and the BBC has the transmitter power to get through a poor receive system.

Thanks - will try to check this out. What can be done if it is indeed signal strength?? Many of my neighbours subscribe to Virgin or Sky so not a problem for them but I don't see why we should have to go down the route of another subscription for what should be available anyway.

Assuming it is just signal strength loss locally, rather than a defective aerial or lead, you can buy signal boosters at Maplin (Wood Green), Argos or Homebase. £10 - £20. It may well buy you time if there is a defect, but that's likely to continue deteriorating over time.

Quite right, check that your roof aerial is pointing at the transmitter(eg usually Crystal Palace or where all your neighbours ones point to) and if any of the elements (cross arms) are missing, if okay it is probably a faulty coax or bad connection. You could buy a signal booster which is a bit of a compromise, best call a TV aerial company in but they will just replace everything rather than find the fault.

Like you, I was having problems with my TV channels and wanted to be sure what it was before buying a new TV. Then I spotted an ad for this:- https://at800.tv/
They came out to me and checked my aerial signal and fitted a small box (between the aerial input socket and the aerial plug) which fixed it. All this for free if indeed it is a 4G signal that's disrupting your reception.
If nothing else they'll tell you how good your signal strength is.
