In particular I love the pastel wash of the claret ash and the striking colours of the liquidamber. (Great names, aren't they).

Yes they are. At our local Palace Gates Triangle we are lucky to have one of each! plus a Common Whitebeam https://www.flickr.com/photos/47046427@N03/8164197058/in/album-7215... (Other name for Claret Ash is Fraxinus angustifolia 'Raywood' not so lyrical....)
