Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Anyone else think there should be speed humps at the West Green end of Langham Road? It's a nightmare trying to cross and cars are often speeding down it throwing caution to the wind! It's a 30mph zone but often cars are way over that! I'm considering talking to the council about it but wanted to see if anyone else thought the same...

Hi Emma, yes or at least a way of slowing down cars. I wrote to the council about this 9 years ago and mentioned speeding cars, thee response was that they had carried out speed checks and average speed was less than 30mph. Since then they have built a ramp on the Langham / Belmont road junction, but cars speed between there and west green road.

The council give that response to every complaint when in reality it is an issue.

Average speed is meaningless.

10 cars at 20mph and one car at 100mph gives an average speed of 27mph

They should be measuring peak speeds.

I completely agree we need better speed humps along Langham Road in its entirety. The ones that have been put in are useless (too flat meaning they are ineffective). I'm going to speak to the council in the next week or so about getting a cycle hoop on Langham Road as my husband and I have had a 3 bikes nicked in the space of 8 months so will speak to them about speed control on the road at the same time. I have a friend who works at the council so she might be able to put me in touch with the right people quickly. Drop me your contacts at chiaramckeegunnell@gmail.com so I can update you directly. Best, Chiara

This is brilliant! Let's try and make change! I've sent you an email Chiara

Emma, I'm not sure about roads humps. I live in a street that has them and some traffic just speeds between them. Heavy vehicles going over them really give my house a good shaking. There are some really innovative road calming schemes out there. The link below is to one in Clapton Terrace which is close enough to go and have a look at.

Agree regarding speed bumps, hence my comment about a means of slowing traffic for example a large raised section seems to work at the Belmont langham junction. Thanks Chiara, I'm sending my email
