I have been going to Lemon Cafe for two years now and I have seen a slow decline in friendliness and good customer services. In fact today, my final visit to this cafe the waiting staff just didn't speak! I hear people in there complaining to each other, but if it's so bad why do we keep going there? Is it just me?

I have to agree with Christopher Lewis, based on my very infrequent visits over the past year or so but especially over the past couple of months. The large menu card is pushed in front of one, usually wordlessly. 'Enjoy your meal' seems to be more than ones waitress can handle. I listen for the unspoken word of thanks as I drop my 10-15% tip. But no more. Folks don't seem to be very happy there. On Friday afternoon last, a fairly elderly lady struggled to push a large wheelchair containing her large but helpless husband through the doorway, across the doormat to the nearest small table. She then had to heave it to one side while she wrestled with one of the heavy chairs so she could finally insert the wheelchair closer to the table. The waitress stood wordlessly by, offering no help and finally plopped the menu on the table and turned on her heel. However, I admit that it is quite a few years now since I found that even muted criticism of Café Lemn might not be so well received. Until today I thought I was in a minority of one. Meanwhile quite a few eating places have come and gone - presumably it is the better ones that will survive. But perhaps not. Once you get the public reputation and paeans of praise for early rising, you can lie in bed till midday. Your customers' lethargy does the rest.

Lemon is the closest to me but I always go to N4 for breakfast - it's cheaper and the staff are lovely. Their Menemen (I think it's one of the Turkish set breakfasts) is particularly good - it's the one with the eggs poached in the stew rather than scrambled
I really like Lemon, but it was mostly for the friendly service and atmosphere. I've not been in for a while so that's probably why the waitresses are a bit sad. Sorry people, I'll try to get in again soon.
The nicest of the young waitresses seems to have left.
if you fancy a walk i can recommend the Park Cafe next to Manor House station. Great breakfasts nice coffee and cheap and most importantly to this thread - lovely guys!
£4.95 for a full english? yes please!
Yes one more for the Park View Cafe. They have the BBC on in the mornings too.
