Can you Identify this Second World War Uniform?

The family of HoL member Doreen Russell lived at 125 Wightman Road for fifty years. Sadly, during the Second World War, her uncle died. She gave me this photo of him and was wondering if anyone could tell her what uniform he is wearing. She believes he was in a naval unit of some sort.

Doreen also kindly lent me some photos of Harringay in WWII which I've scanned and added to our gallery.

Hugh, with the assumption that he was a serving member of the armed forces at the time he died, if you can find out his full name you can look him up on the CWGC site, that should give you every detail you need including rank etc.

The collar badge looks like the symbol for Essex, so I searched The Essex Regiment and the cap badge seems to match too: http://www.northeastmedals.co.uk/british_regiment/essex_regiment.htm

Thrilled for you, Doreen. Thanks for the super pictures. All those war children are of my generation. I was living in another road - and it was probably another party - but can just about remember VE day.

me too, in Frobisher we paraded up the road to the church hall my picture is already in the gallery. was it St Peters forgot name but remember the day I was 4.
