I have just submitted a complaint to the council regarding some really unpleasant looking barbed wire rings being installed today at 67 Duckett Road.
I believe the view and the environment is very adversely affected by barbed wire.
Large groups of schoolchildren are regularly using the passage and I think it contributes to a negative image for the area as a whole.
If you feel the same please also add your thoughts here or also consider submitting a complaint to the council.
Thanks

Thanks Priya,
I've actually looked out my window and seen kids looking up at it in bewilderment!
I agree it is dangerous and unsightly. Near where I live someone covered the wall with broken glass. They must have been told to remove it because it went again after several months and the fence was made higher instead. Sadly I do understand why the houses next to the passage feel exposed, but there are better solutions than wire and broken glass.
I don't think people are allowed to do that... the most you can get away with is to plant a thorny hedge I believe.
I have to admit the wall for the flat below mine also has broken glass. It was there 13 years ago and probably much longer before that, and hasnt been removed. However, at least it doesnt invade the view like a huge roll of prison camp razor wire does.
If it was that long ago I think the rules were different - and the owners can't be compelled to remove it.
Did you speak to the people at the house before raising with the Council? What was the response?
Ha, where I'm from razor wire means "Gang house, do not approach under any circumstances!"
Have just had a note from the Ladder Community Safety Partnership who have spoken to the police and the council about this. The property will be visited and a request made to remove it. It is to be hoped that that should be enough, however, if not more formal action will be taken to have it removed. So here's hoping that the razor wire will be removed soon.
Thanks for raising the issue, Yan and Liz. It is definitely nasty looking and should be removed before someone gets hurt.
That's good to hear. They should also ensure the glass is removed from the other wall mentioned by Yan. Glass and wire are inappropiate deterrants plus glass is dangerous for animals too as just leads to cut paws for cats, for example. Hedges, thorny roses or prickly bushes are better options plus there are loads of security options out there.
I live sufficiently nearby to be able to shed some light on this. This barbed wire was put up in response to an attempted burglary last Friday when someone got over the passage fence (which had been increased in height quite considerably a few years ago, so an achievement in itself) and into the back garden, almost certainly in search of tools. Thankfully they were scared off by the new alarm fitted. The builders currently on site had had their van broken into only a short while before and a lot of expensive gear stolen. Police reckon it was the same person/people in both instances. I believe they may have refused to carry on working after this second attempt unless the security was beefed up.
Therefore, I'm assuming/hoping that this over-the-top Stalag Luft-style arrangement is only temporary until work has finished. If not, then I agree that it would be unacceptable for it to remain in place.
We shall see.
