I confess to taking spare plants from my garden over to Finsbury Park and planting them on the less well tended bits and I'm tempted to seed bomb my nearest substation with sunflower seeds in the spring

Yes, agree with Anne - now is a very good time, better than in spring as they're dormant and you're more sure that they'll get decent water over the next few months (and how if today is anyting to go by!).
