I'm sure that the closure of St Ann's Rd for the Lantern Parade will create lots of local traffic fun that day too.

Strange that it's supposed to be helping small business when those of us who would have used the bus to get to the events the Independent has list probably won't be able to get there because of the extra congestion.
I think the plan is that free parking will reduce congestion. The High St is normally choked with cars on the weekend, this will make it easier to park because there will be less cars? No, hang on, that can't be right.
I am joking, in case that wasn't clear.

I think most people would prefer a real plan rather than knee jerk headline grabbing. The supermarkets and retail parks can offer free or cheap parking while the small high street shops cannot. There is a real demand for free short term parking on high streets. 

Yes, which is what makes this idea so wrong-headed.
