Kind of annoying that he can't spell Harringay (and doesn't quite get the difference between it and Haringey). Seems fairly basic if you're writing an article like this!
As a friend of mine who works at The Guardian has said, recent years have seen a decline in investment in good print journalism. Even reasonable journalism is wanting. As for investigative journalism, it has practically disappeared.
I'm always amazed at how empty and illiterate these ersatz Guardian 'lifestyle' articles can be. Tom Dyckhoff? Was 'hoff' originally Dutch for 'head'?
Apart from the misspelling, which is sloppy, what's he got wrong? Seems like a fairly accurate description to me. Prices are outdated, of course, I wouldn't say that there were "great pubs," only a couple of pretty decent ones.
Ah Danzigger, the misspelling of beautiful Harringay is a topic that tends to get many people quite cross. It reinforces the council's view that it is problematic to have an area which sounds like the borough (we were here first of course) and helps their cause in eradicating it in favour of Green Lanes (which is just the name of the high street). You will find a lot of pedants (and proud of it) on here but there is method in our pedantry. We are of course talking the Grauniad, famous for its typos, but the way this journalist mixes and misspells is probably down to him...and as words are his stock in trade he should make the effort to get it right.
Have noticed the article written in Jan 2006, which might explain the property prices.

I did like the part "beware of Harringay in Crouch End clothing". Always love those estate agent ads that describe ladder houses as "ideal for the exciting bars, restaurants and shops in Crouch End"; if you could FLY maybe!
"Crouch End Borders" seems to extend all the way to Wood Green according to the agents I dealt with last year
:D at the flying comment!

i think we'll be seeing a drop back down to jan 2006 prices soon if things carry on the way that they're going! (downhill).

and, i always thought harringay was much nicer than finsbury park!
We have just set up a Website www.eLemon.co.uk chiefly targeted at Haringey’s residents. In many aspects, it could be compared to the well known eBay, but eLemon is different as users don’t have to pay anything for uploading their items for sale. Unlike in eBay, sellers will be able to display up to two pictures per item for free. You can also keep your item listed online until it is sold and once this happens only a percentage out of the selling price will be charged. A further advantage, for both sellers and buyers, is that it should be easier to avoid postage arrangements and fees by meeting in Haringey’s locality.
www.elemon.co.uk will mainly feature items such as books, pictures, furniture, antiques and any other home equipment as well as being open to the trade.
An area of the Website will also be dedicated to classified advertisements. Uploading in this particular section will be free of chage until the end of December 2008
I hope Haringey will enjoy its new Website.
Dear elemon,
Is this what most of us would think of as free advertising?
