Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Does anyone have any experience of living near a road where rumble strips have been laid? If so, what were the outcomes for you?

This is a rumble strip in Ravenstone Rd, just north of Turnpike lane. According to a friend who lives right next to it, it's far quieter than a speedhump and she is very happy. Parkside Malvern RA lobbied the council on her behalf to replace the old speed hump.

No street view on the entire length of the road. What do those Ravenstone's have to hide?

Are these rumble strips like the ones at the end of motorways or do they have deeper grooves? I can't imagine I would enjoy having one out the front of my house any more than the poorly constructed speed hump I presently have. Ever heard Veolia's rattling cages fly hopping over the bumps on a peaceful Sunday morning?

From a car/mini-bus driver's point of view-you really DO have to slow down for these!

Parallel discussion here.

And the paralel discussion was mine  - I should have known my neighbour Abi would have got in first!

I have spoken today with the chief engineer on the scheme John Deasy. The closest similar he reckons is on Green lanes near the A406 opposite Kelvin Avenue  https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Kelvin+Ave,+London/@51.6102068,...!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x48761943580178a1:0x1b2092f32df1e1cd

You can use Streetview here, so you can actually see it!

This one however has the bumps 0.5m apart, where as the proposed one on West Green Road will have the bumps 3.5m apart to reduce noise and vibrations. The West Green Road one will also be Buff coloured from the anti skid materials used, which will make them more visible.

The idea apparently is to create a sense of shared space, based on the Dutch ideas. This can be very successful if done properly, but is not something that I know a lot about.

If you fancy an outing to go and see the ones spoken about on this forum Abi let me know!

The Dutch don't use shared space on roads with through traffic. Any engineer that thinks people can 'share space' with vehicles including buses on a 30mph road is fooling themselves.

I'd be slightly wary of shared space in a neighbourhood where the concept of stopping at a zebra crossing seems to be an unheard-of innovation for some drivers.
