Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

A friend of mine has just moved into a lovely flat at the Turnpike Lane end of Langham Road. She finds it hard to get about sometimes and told me she absolutely hates Wood Green, her nearest Shopping area. To give her a bit of a Haringey welcome I took her into W.G Market where we were able to chat for ages in the Italian cafe over good coffee in a comfortable friendly space, no crowds and then amble about in the oriental shop buying soya sauce, noodles and ridiculously cheap chilli sauces. We came away from the Veg and Meat stalls all kitted out for our weekend of cooking. Yams, Bananas, Okra, Green Beans, Bell pepper, T bone steak, lamb Mince...A little flutter round Tiger and we were well happy. Next week is a new adventure I'm taking her left side to Green Lanes for Lunch. She WILL love Haringey.

If it's the thought of trudging along busy old Wood Green High Road that dismays, then of course the Market has an back door onto Mayes Road.

Hey Sharon,

Glad you're determined to make your friend like Haringey! I've lived in Wood Green my whole life..so far :P and I love it here, there's so much diversity :D

Maybe you could take your friend to Fatisa - it's a really nice restaurant just up the road from Wood Green station, about a ten minute walk. You've probably heard of it before? They do such good food and it's a beautiful place. They only came a few years ago but they've done a really good job. Plus it's right next to Woodside Park so you could go for a stroll :P

I love Wood Green too and lived there for nearly 20 years from when I came to london as a student, aged 18. I'm in Tottenham now but still pop up to my old stomping ground regularly.
Let's not forget kabaret @ karamel....in the cultural quarter. An absolute hidden gem, now serving vegan food. Excellent breakfasts with the best coffee in the area. A hundred times more friendly than Fatisa, which granted, does do a good quality breakfast. I only endure it because of this offering. Everything on Fatisa's menu is about £2 overpriced and staff are unfriendly.

The there is kervan where pizza but used to be. Arguably the best Turkish restaurant in wood green. Amazing food, never disappoints, fresh salads, delicious bread and dips...all for a very reasonable price.
Vegan food?! Where abouts is "kabaret @ karamel"?
Yep, vegan. Delish food!!

It's in the chocolate factory, cultural quarter. Mayes road, on the road that the Shakespeare head pub is. Near Iceland at the back of the shopping mall.
