Hi all.
Has anyone else noticed how horrific the images are on a constant loop being beamed out of the windows of Ersan & Co opposite the Salisbury?
When it was first being refurbished, it was a mystery as to what it was going to be, then as the 'PERSONAL INJURY, 'ACCIDENT CLAIMS' and 'MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE' banners were unveiled it became clear that it is a ambulance chaser megamart.
So what right? These [sort of firms*] have to be based somewhere.
My gripe is that they show videos on a constant loop of all of the worst things which can happen. There is one video in particular which features an awful car accident where a car crosses into the oncoming lane and is obliterated by a truck. I have been in a couple of car accidents, and they are no joke, and it struck me that this is particularly inappropriate footage to be broadcasting to the general public 24 hours a day.
Also the monitors seem to be beaming these out at about a million lumens, they illuminate the whole street, thankfully my bedroom is not on the street side or I would need blackout curtains.
Who can I complain to? (Besides you lot...)

Because I live in that building and have been pushing for the council to act on this monstrosity and the enforcement officer on the case told me so.

Not sure if it's good news but the television screens were off at 7.30pm last night 18/9/14 If they stay that way I'll be delighted!!!!

Although the following probably reiterates much of what has already been raised by many responses, it cannot be overstated that this is exactly the kind of visual intrusion that has no place in the local townscape and the new Green Lanes regeneration.
These screens are extremely intrusive and unwanted visual distractions in their immediate vicinity, and are also a dangerous distraction to passing drivers and are, frankly, highly aggressive and blatant promotion and advertising – of a very poor quality. To compound their unwelcome presence, the interminable looped sequence of moving images is even more distressing, showing car accidents in moving film footage.
However, irrespective of the content, such outward-facing screens have no place in the local townscape whatsoever. If it was footage of beautiful scenery, they would still not be an acceptable constituent part of the townscape. Such screens are not present in any localities elsewhere and these should not be allowed to be the exception as it would set an highly undesirable precedent.
For people who live or work opposite or nearby, and to pedestrians relaxing in the new precinct, these are totally unwelcome additions to the townscape which they cannot escape – true visual pollution and totally unacceptable.
If they were only facing into the offices that would be a different matter, but these are facing the street.
These should be subject to Planning Enforcement and should be dismantled without delay as totally inappropriate to the Green Lanes townscape. We certainly do not want to see these continue under any circumstances.

Geoff, I believe that at least one local resident lodged a formal complaint with Haringey Council's Planning Department. My understanding is that, not only are the two big video screens currently subject to planning enforcement, but there may also have been issued an enforcement notice, giving a fortnight to take down the signs. This period may expire this Monday.
Local Councillors may have more and better information.

Some improvement to Ersan corner today. Courtesy, I'm guessing, of a bit of arm-twisting by Mr Mehmet. and by the sweat of his own brow, the pavement outside Ersan now has a row of large potted box trees, with more to come along the St Ann's frontage.
I'm not an apologist for the screens, but I do like the trees. So, that's a pat on the back for Shefik Mehmet.

Yes, apparently ersan staff had initially refused that Mr Mehmet put the plants outside their windows so he had to make them understand they had no say in the matter. Once again they demonstrate by their attitude that, short of another betting shop, they are the worst business that could have moved into the area.

Possibly a little too sweeping with your damnation there, Chris. There is certainly more we could wish for in their corporate social responsibility stance, but let's hope things will improve.

Well, as someone living in that building I can tell you that the signage issues are just the tip of the iceberg, but I won't bore you with the details. Anyway, let's just let the council do its job and see what happens...

Update: THEY'RE BACK ON AGAIN! And on a Sunday, too. This *does* have an impact on an otherwise pleasant visit to Bun & Bar, as we found last weekend. Must be far worse having to live with it every day though Chris, you have my sympathy.
