David Lammy has put his hat in the ring for the Labour Mayoral nomination alongside Christian Wolmar. See Guardian article here. He will step down as Tottenham MP if selected. I don't think that will happen but watch the bunfight over his very safe seat if it does.

Not sure what version of reality you see. Its not hate that causes wars, its people like David Lammy not standing up for his constituents, but choosing to opt for agreeing with the powers that are seeking to destroy in their own interests.
Aw come on Philip - look again at what you just wrote:
>>'it's not hate that causes wars'
Lammy has not caused any wars. He's a senior member of the Labour Party, a party founded on trying to bring about social justice - they might not be any good at it because so many disagree, but to even suggest that they directly cause war is bordering on crazy. Also, whatever war is caused here, you and I are responsible for it - it's not Lammy's fault we're at war, it's our fault. He does what we tell him to do.
Are you one of those who genuinely feels that Lammy must think 'How can I get power and abuse it for my own personal gain'? Surely even an idiot would steer clear of politics if that's what they were after. These people really are motivated by a desire to serve, they really are.
If he was a senior member of, say, Greenpeace, I doubt that anyone would dare say any of the deeply personal things said here about him. My only real point is that it should not pass that people can causally toss off such virulently personal remarks of anyone on a public website.
You are quite mistaken. David Lammy supported the invasion of Iraq. If more MPs had opposed the war we might not be in the dreadful position we are in now. He also supports Israel. In my view he is a war criminal. In what way would you say he wasn't? You say 'he does what we tell him to do' !!! What planet are you on? David Lammy doesn't even reply to my (very polite) emails or letters. Do you have a memory problem or can you not acknowledge a reality which doesn't fit in with your world view? Don't you remember Tony Blair going to war? I was one of the two million who marched against it. Neither Blair nor Lammy listened. Lammy opposed an inquiry into the war! Do you put your fingers in your ears and go 'lalalalalala'?
Phillip it sounds like you should be getting behind Christian Wolmar's campaign here.
You've named two people you consider war criminals - any others?
Churchill, for sure. Wellington? Definitely! Is Lammy more or less guilty than his boss, the Prime Minister? Are the researchers that help run his office also war criminals or are they lesser criminals?
Had you been Lammy and voted against the war, would that have let you off the hook - a Labour MP who voted against a war we nevertheless entered into, or is that MP also a war criminal?
It is you and I that are the war criminals - what was done was done in our name. You stood idly by and let it happen - yes, you marched, but then what? You have to accept responsibility for the things done in your name, even though you might personally disapprove of them. Think of the family of someone killed by our huge weapons industry, sanctioned by our government - would they say, oh well, it's not Philip's fault, he doesn't agree with his government?
