HARRINGAY residents and transient motorists might like to view this sub-five-minute video shot this afternoon.
It's a time-lapse over 60 minutes (link below).
It features the foot of Hewitt Road from where motorists exit, but are not permitted to turn right.
Further along the street, a different camera – a Council-controlled camera – keeps an eagle eye out for unsuspecting motorists. It records the action more regularly and more determinedly than the footage you're about to see.
Watching the video:
Enjoy ?!

- Clive, I've looked at the list of CCTV fixed camera locations (above) & I'm slightly confused. In the LBH preamble it states that the cameras are operational: Sunday to Thursday 7am - 11pm & 7am - 4am Friday to Sunday. However looking at their locations, most of them only appear to be operational between the hours of 7am - 10am Monday to Friday, (morning rush hour), including the ones on Green Lanes N8 & N4.
I'm sure there is a simple explanation, but do you know what their remit is outside 'operational hours'?
Morning Peter:
Great question, no answer yet!
Since it is unlawful to turn right 24/7, IMO, no motorist should rely on these Operational Hours. I'm not sure why the Council might want to publish such hours anyway.
Last night while passing the cameras on foot, I saw both trained on the Hewitt Road junction: the existing, pole-mounted camera that I had assumed was for bus-lanes and the new smaller one that was retro-fitted to a pole yesterday.
Would 7 - 10 am be the hours when the bus lanes are in operation ?
Turn right get fined turn left don't get fined, its not too complicated
HERE's a link to a new video shot earlier this afternoon ("no right turn wednesday 6th of august"). Again, one hour's worth. You'll wait for seemingly ages for the first ca-ching, then a lot come together. The total is 13 ca-chings for the hour.
it would be much better if they slowed down the action when a car makes a right turn.
TW, in response to your comment, this fresh video was shot this afternoon over 60 minutes. I believe the total was 11 Ka-chings.
