Any ideas on how to best insulate floor in front room of Ladder house?

As a lot of you probably know, Ladder houses can get cold. Especially if you don't have a carpet in the front room. Which I don't want, for various reasons. Have a rug though, but does not seem to make a difference.
Any idea how to best stop the cold draft that creeps up between the floorboards from the cellar?
My idea was to get carpet underlay and tack it on underneath, but not sure if that's a good one as I am not the queen of DIY. Any ideas gratefully received!

We had this problem. When we moved in the draughts used to lift the carpet when the wind was fierce.

We solved the problem by having a new wooden floor, with tongued and grooved boards, laid on top of the original floor. It made the room much quieter too.

We used something a bit like GapSeal (StopGap!). It worked in that we don't get the horrendous drafts we used to get from the cellar - and it was certainly easier and far cheaper than any of the alternatives. Anette - if you want to have a look just pop round. The only draw back with the stuff we used is that it is white, so you can see it if you really have a look.
hi alison - we're considering doing something similar to our flat - we've got the whole thing floor-boarded, so probably pretty expensive to do the whole lot.

how effective do you think this approach is? it certainly seems a lot cheaper than alternatives/.//

cheers
Thanks Alison, I will! :)
I can highly recommend Gapseal too. My husband and I spent 2 hours one afternoon to do the front room. It was really easy and the room was loads warmer. I've also used Gapseal in a lighter colour to insulate our sash windows and it works really well. It's far better than any other draft excluders we've used in the past.
Just wanted to let everyone know that we solved the problem with Homebase's multipurpose sealant. It's cheap and really easy to work with. Just put it in to the gaps between the floorboards, it goes in white and dries translucent, so very easy to see what you've done. Also, it's not silicone based, so very easy to wipe off with a damp cloth when you make a mess (which I did...).
It only takes a few hours to do, and it's very effective in stopping drafts - we've had the warmest winter ever thanks to this and a chimney balloon.
I really recommend it.
call liz on 07970 578856 as we've just used hemp cladding for our underfloor. Welcome to have a look.

We are in Terront rd.
