Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

...........well, not sheep really, cars.

The Wood Green Car Free Day is coming up - Sunday 28th Sept, 7AM to 8PM. It's the closest we'll get to emulating traffic pattterns in Harringay in the event that WG High Street is made bus only.

It would seem to me to be an ideal opportunity for us to guage the effects on traffic in Harringay. To do that we'd need to select a few roads and measure traffic levels on the day that WG High Street is closed plus the same day on the week before or after.

We'd need agreement on the roads we should monitor, a group of volunteers (each of us could give a few hours each) and, ideally, some clicker counters.

Can anyone help wth any of that?

I guess I should volunteer Wightman Road or Hampden Road
Hugh---
As I was standing watching the traffic just now something occurred to me/

Let's say on a normal Sunday we measure 15 cars per minute on Wightman Road but on the traffic-free Sunday the Ladder is gridlocked we might only measure 5 cars per minute because they are having to crawl along, what would this prove ?

Would it be better to do periodic timed runs from A to B ?
I can pitch in, depending when it is.
Good point Birdy. I've added the Car Free day up top. The comparator day could be either he Sunday before that or the one after.
Naturally, I'm up for Hewitt.
Like these Hugh:

I can although I'd have to pick a time convenient with the Gaffer and wee ones. I would assume we do the car free w/e and the w/e after/before ?

Also would this survey run for the duration of the car free day or part of it ie. 10-4 ?
Shall we buy them then?

As far as times are concerned, I'm not sure. I'd thought about doing three or four one and a half to two hour slots across the day. What do y'all think?
Yes, definitely. I was about to suggest something like this a little while ago - thinking about monitoring on the 28th and the Sundays on either side. Then I remembered I'd be in Ireland this weekend!
I'd certainly be up for a few hours' counting on 28th and 5th Oct, if that's what's decided.
There might be some point in monitoring both ends of Wightman Rd to take account of the traffic that may cut down/up Warham, Hewitt, Frobisher etc to lead to/from St Anns or West Green Rd
So if John D. looks after the Hampden Rd end, I (and/or someone from N4WR) could watch the southern end???
.... but as with sheep counting maybe this should be done in pairs in case one drops off from time to ...zzzzzz. Yes, clicker counters would be a help.
Sounds good Eddie.

So far, roads suggested are:

- Wightman Road, North End
- Wightman Road, South End
- Warham Road
- Hewitt Road
- Frobisher Road

Agree?

Any others?
do you need Seymour?
Hugh,
A few years ago the Council carried out regular traffic monitoring on the Ladder Roads in connection with proposals for better traffic management in the area. Unfortunately nothing came of it.
What the figures did show was that Warham Road is the busiest road, largely because of traffic coming across from from St Ann's Road along Salisbury Road after that trafffic stream was re-routed.
Perhaps Warham Road should therefore be one of the roads monitored on Sunday 28th?
I might be able to help for a short period - but I shall be going up to Hampstead about lunch time for the Apple Day at Fenton House.
David at 8 Warham Road.
