Walking along the Lanes this evening, I met Tomasz who's opening Polish themed Autograf Grill in the former Nafsikas premises. He showed me round inside and pointed out that as part of his lease he got back the garden that was used by the Garden Ladder. The interior will be left as what he described as urban industrial with bare brick and exposed girders. Sounds like it's going to look good. Tomasz is aiming at a June opening, but it sounds like it may tip in to July.
I also spoke with Dipesh, who's taken on the lease of the former Garden Ladder. As the son of the owner on Lido, Dipesh has grown up in Harringay since he was six, You can't get more local than that. He confirmed that it's to remain a bar but he's redecorating and will be targeting a different crowd. Live music will also be part of the deal. If you've been drinking in the Salisbury over the past few months you may well have met him across the bar. Dipesh is hoping to open later this month.
Good luck to you both, guys. Looking forward to having you on our high street.

It is a bit harder now, Liz, Whittington has disbanded its home birth team so if you opt for a home birth you will be attended by a community midwife, as such home births have apparently dropped from 12 a month to 2. And there's no weekly catch up at the cafe at Finsbury Park anymore…I was really sad to learn this at
That is a shame. I was encouraged early on with my first child to consider home birth (although that changed later in the pregnancy). I imagine you probably have to insist now rather than having it put on the table as an option as they have cut resources.
Thank you Hugh.
Was nice to finally met you on the Lanes...
Now that comes as welcome news...getting a good curry around here means take-away. Or a schlep to Stroud Green. Will watch with interest
I do love a kebab but walking up Green Lanes on Saturday I felt a bit sad about the number of Kebab superemporiums we have. Also the smoke and stench hanging in the air makes it all rather miserable.
Would anyone else like to join me in complaining to Devran about their staff colonising the pavement at the bottom of Pemberton Rd? Every time I walk down there in the evening I have to negotiate the obstacle course of fag smoking staff sat on the floor or upturned buckets and leaning on cars, and assorted broomsticks, filthy stinking mops and mopbuckets, sack trolleys, etc dotted about the place. I had a go at them the other day about them sweeping all the crap from their kitchen floor out onto the pavement and emptying their filthy mopbucket all over the path.
Lauren - that all annoys me too, but the worst thing for me (because it's dangerous) is that the kitchen door opens outwards directly onto the street and a couple of times I've had to dodge out of the way very quickly as someone flings it open from inside - not so bad during the day, but the door's black so it's terrible at night.
Yes! I have had that too! Followed by the aforementioned mop bucket being tipped out!!!And that side window that opens outwards is dangerous if you aren't aware of it I imagine someone getting the corner of it in their eye. What makes them think this is acceptable behaviour? Their bin-store really stinks in this hot weather as well.
Has that been approved by planning? If not, it ought to be challenged, since it's in contravention to the Haringey UDP - as I explained last year on the Fairline discussion.
