I called Haringey Pest Control today to ask about removing a wasps' nest from under my eaves. Usually I would let it be but a) I am seriously allergic to stings and this is right by my bedroom window and b) I can hear the little blighters buzzing all night.
But Haringey only deals with wasps nests in a certain season, which begins some time in July. I could call them out earlier, but I could not have the concessionary rate for Tax Credits, which makes it much more expensive.
Other pest control firms seem to charge about the same as Haringey's full price, so it looks like I am going to have to keep my bedroom windows closed and put up with the buzzing for a couple of months.

Some time ago the beekeepers at Highbury Builders came and removed a swarm of honeybees from my compost bin-I'm pretty sure they said they did wasps nests too. There's an email on this page you could try
Thanks, Liz - it turns out mine are probably bees too, as it's too early in the year for wasps (hence the council refusing to come out yet.) It's a problem, though, because they are really inaccessible - either inside the wall or behind the guttering somehow. I don't know how they can be got out without removing part of the roof. But they can't stay there either as apparently the honey can drip down and cause damage to the house. I will definitely try the Highbury lot.
