Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

In 2010, HoL put in a lot of work to try and ensure that local people were as well informed as possible about the views of candidates in all of Harringay's three wards. We don't have the same amount if time available this year, so I've been working alongside the indefatigable Adam Coffman and the Friends of Harringay Passage putting together a hustings. This time round we're just going to focus on Harringay ward. If this works, we may expand to other wards in the future.

We're delighted to have Richard Godwin, Evening Standard journalist and local resident as Chair. Thank you Richard. We have invited one candidate from each of the Conservative, Green, Labour, Lib Dem and TUSC parties.

The hustings will take place at North Harringay School between 7 and 9 PM on Tuesday 13th May. We're going to look at the practicality of a live interactive broadcast.

More soon.

I've just had a look at the Wikipedia page for "Husting" - interesting and worth a read.

this is a fantastic idea, would be keen to help organise one for the Bruce Grove ward.

Sorry, but you missed out on Bruce Grove Residents' Network hustings for Bruce Grove Ward held last night, 1st May.

Thanks for arranging

Members of the campaign 'Haringey Needs St Ann's Hospital' are planning to come along and ask the candidates their views on health provision, particularly given the 10,000 new homes planned for the borough. eg Tottenham already has fewer GPs per person than the rest of London (which has fewer than rest of England) and only one hospital, for which there are proposals to sell off part of the site to developers.

Do let us know the dates of any other hustings in Haringey where we can raise the profile of health provision.

How have Stake Boards and Posters been getting on lately? Have a lot of Lib Dems winning here been popping up or has it been a lot of Vote Labour?

It'll be great if Harringay pops up with political posters, send me a message for more details

Hi Jerry
We have about 25 up already with more requests coming in. At the moment the roads with the most are Beresford (which is fast becoming a sea of red) Fairfax and Falkland. David is currently being surrounded on Falkland however he does come out in good spirit and watch while we put them up :)

Emine Ibrahim
Labour Party Candidate (Harringay ward)

Good to hear that they're popping up...but a shame to hear they're a Labour majority

I'd prefer it to be a balance.

That is the nature of democracy Jerry - Get ready for the special order whopper board coming soon!

Emine

Just a quick note on the format for the evening. We are requesting the questions in advance - the deadline is 5pm on Friday 9th May - so that our Chair for the evening can choose the best ones. These questions will not be seen by the prospective candidates on the panel.

Each question that is picked will be answered by all the panellists, and we hope to get through as many questions as possible on the night. There should be the opportunity during the event for people from the audience to ask follow-up questions.

Email any questions to questions@harringayhustings.com

Thank you to the chair Richard Godwin ('our Robin Day,') for a well managed and fair husting last night.

Thank you to Hugh & Liz (HoL,) Adam, & North Harringay School for making the School available for public service.

Very brief report here. What did you think?

Hi Hugh - would definately have liked to have a 'Husting' in Tottenham. With all the changes happening in Tottenham  - it would be really important for this website to reflect more of the Tottenham side of Haringey or create a new website? Let me know your thoughts please
