Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Some years back I took out a service with CPP (Card Protection Plan). A few weeks back I had a letter about an offer to make a compensation claim for something akin to misselling. The process was simple so I thought why not. I just received a cheque for £300. So if you got a similar letter, take the 5 minutes required to submit your claim.

Hugh. I'm told that the process of applying for CPP compensation does not need solicitors because it is so simple. Do you know what your legal firms cut amounted to ? the last insurance claim i went through i asked the firm what amount the firm took and it was twice what i received. Maybe your payout would be a lot more if you'd claimed on your own ?

Legal firm? Where did that come from? I just filled in a simple form.

Oh sorry, i assumed you were aproached by a legal firm to act on your behalf.

Good grief, no, I wouldn't go for that.

Hi Hugh - that's useful info. Would be great if you could supply more info re filling in those questions - a 'generic' response or lots of specifics re dates banks etc?

For anyone else who received that letter, there's also a forum on CPP via Martin Lewis at moneysavingexpert.com

Sorry Claire, I filled it in very much in the same frame of mind as I would do a competition for a holiday to New York or some such; in other words just on the off-chance. So I didn't keep a copy of the form and don't remember what the questions were. I do remember the form being short and straightforward and I just filled in the answers truthfully. I seem to remember it being simple statements of fact.

I went onto the Which website and downloaded a standard letter there, filled in the blanks and sent off to to couple of banks I had had loans from ages ago and got a rather surprising amount of money back. Money Savings expert has a good guide on how to do it (link below) I gave a copy of the form letter to a colleague at work. Her partner sent it off to a bank he had taken out a fairly substantial loan from to do home renovations and got over £12,000 back. Never ever use claim firm. The job takes 10 minutes and is really easy.

As a PS, I also claimed back CPP insurance like Hugh and got about the same back. They should have sent you info on this late last year if you had a policy and then the actual claim forms around Christmas. Deadline for claims is end of May so you need to get your skates on.

Thanks for the reponses and info. I got the CPP claim form in Feb and the deadline on letter is 30 August 2014.

I used the wording suggested by moneysavingexpert.com, it took about 5 minutes to fill out the form and I've just had a cheque for £300

Great to hear Betty. I shall do the same. Thanks

Thanks so much for letting us know about this Hugh - I'd never heard about it. Just phoned CPP and I'm eligible to claim but they had my old address since I cancelled the policy a few years ago. There must be quite a lot of people in this sort of situation!
