Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

45 minutes to get through this morning. no appointments left. then (when I'll and feeling vulnerable) having to deal with call back from battle-axe nurse/ gatekeeper - I know when I need to see a doctor. she won't listen, talks over me in dismissive contemptuous tones. she knows better. ask for suggestions where is a drop in or should I go to A&E - this is slapped down in sneery tone.

My GP there (who is nice) is on long term sick. I need to find another practice. anywhere as long as not located in Umfreville Road. I have put in a formal complaint to NHS England - they were very helpful and will call the practice to negotiate this time. but I haven't the energy to keep dealing with this c£#$p...

No pipplypig you have have not named her but you and many others have happily singled her out. apologies if I'm incorrect but I believe there is only one triage nurse working at the practice. She may be local, might be a member of HOL, may have family that view these comments, how do you think they will feel? How would you feel if it was your child, wife, husband, sibling, friend or yourself?

Your actions and those of others are no better than the ones you so happily write about. As a professional who works with individuals whose lives have been ruined by bullying, cyber included, I feel you folks are behaving cruelly and need to be told so. Obviously I can't stop you but I want you to know how it effects me and might effect that person you so abhor. Many people who have read your comments and who go to that surgery might now expect the kind of behaviour you guys are writing about? Whether they get it may never happen, but they might treat her with the same contempt you are whether or not she "deserves it". If you need to complain please write to her employers, call them or join the patients group. Please don't shout about it to over 5000 people.

I'm surprised the admins haven't moderated some of these comments.

Tunbridge. I honestly dont think I have said anything cruel about the nurse in question. She wields an enormous amount of power and used to cause my family an unbelievable amount of stress. I spoke to her in person many times about the treatment we received and also to the practice. I am not saying anything here that I wouldn't feel comfortable saying directly to her.

I am not trying to advocate being mean about someone for the sake of it- I am trying to find a platform to air my views in the hope that it brings about change and saves a few others from the misery that we had to go through by warning them off. This is very different to trolling or cyber bullying and if she were to read this I would hope she might take a moment to reflect on how she deals with people. 

You ask me how I would feel if I saw people complaining about my behaviour online. I am a teacher so I would expect to receive negative feedback from either my employers, the parents or students themselves if I was deliberately unhelpful, rude or unkind to anyone I teach or encounter at work. If I found out many people had complained about me I would feel upset but it would make me think about how I was conducting myself at work and whether I was at fault. I know sometimes people get bullied online without justification or just for being a bit unpopular but I do not think that is what is happening here. I for one was just completely ground down by our triage experiences. I have never experienced anything like it before or since at a doctors surgery.

 

I totally disagree Tunbridge Wells. I think people need to be warned when staff working in `healthcare' treat patients with contempt. I have posted on this site a few times about this practice and how appalling it is. I stuck with it for longer than I should because it was near but I finally had enough and signed up with a practice in Crouch End. It now takes me longer to go to the doctor but it's worth it to be treated with respect and professionalism. It's all coming back to me now; never being able to get an appointment, the way reception belittled patients in front of others, always being kept waiting to be seen even with the appointment. It is by far the worst practice I have ever come across and it's long overdue someone taking action against them.I complained many times, including on the NHS website but it's clear to see nothing has improved, judging by the comments on here. The Patient Association may be another group worth informing.

Yes bus it does seem this particular person, who is un-named seems to need a firm 'Kick in the Arse' and perhaps needs to be sent on a Customer Care Course.

When I complained abut my former GP she was deemed competent, but the number of people I have met since, either patients, or Doctors who either worked with her, or some years ago one employed her, were 'Diplomatically Critical'.  Language has been moderated and people do look at HOL.

ok great ... in the end I went to Whittington A&E, waited nearly 2 hours, saw a really nice woman doctor (who was also a GP she said) she was astonished that the surgery had not issued the prescription I'd asked for (I have a long term condition) for me to collect same day. she issued it on the spot. Meanwhile NHS ENGLAND were terribly nice, v helpful, contacted Practice Manager and got an appointment for Wed for me...I'm contemplating a formal complaint still though against that nurse - rude, dismissive, disrespectful, talking to me like I'm a five year old, and I've heard she's been rude to lots of others too. I still think I'd like to change to a different practice - it's a nightmare getting an appointment. my phone says I called 57 times in 45 minutes before I got through. then to be told no appointments, I can't do that again.

In the end I did see a very helpful Lithuanian doctor.  I've put my move on hold for the next few weeks to see what happens.  Apparently my 'raising of issues' should be discussed in the practice and in the region.  I wonder if any changes will be made... if not I shall move.

 

Well I made the same complaints about the surgery more than 5 years ago and it looks like nothing has changed so I don't think you should hold your breath Sapphireblue. Looks like they are pretty complacent. Sounds like they need a complete change of management at the very least

Lawrence House Surgery on Phillip Lane is in the same building as JS Medical Practice someone else recommended and is very good.

Agreed! I fought to get into this surgery about a decade ago and am really happy.

They have an online booking system too, so you dont even have to speak to someone, you just see the available dates and plonk yourself in.

They also are piloting (which I hope they keep) this telephone Dr service, so the Dr calls you within an hour of you phoning, and chats to you on the phone. She prescribed me and I just went in to collect the prescription. 

If you are in the catchment I would recommend the vale practice in crouch end. I live in N of ladder and go there. There reception staff are properly amazing, docs will phone you back same morning for urgent issues and either do prescription over phone or see you later that day if needed. Nurse great too. Best GP practice I have had in London by a mile.

If you want a local practice- then would recommend Cedar Practice at manor house- i have been there for years after trowling through other Gp practices including both on umpreville road( i found Dr Hass totally unproffesional)  and wasnt happy at any till I started at Cedar practice and  few of my friends are registered there- also happy

And Im a practice nurse so have high although realistic expectations- but no trage nurse to go through, only a triage Gp i think if need to be seen in an emergency 

and yes of course there are far too many patients per gp ratio- and far too much time trying to obtain document  criteria for targets- blame it on the government- so yes if you need to be seen its tough

But one thing I will say working for gp land- if I need a presciption I know I have to give 2-3days notice- its always been like that- so if someone wants me to start a new drug they need to prescribe it on the spot, otherwise it will be 2-3days notice-
