Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Love them or hate them, the Olympics are coming and the big handover is Sunday 24th August.

"Celebrating the end of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Olympic Handover Party at Victoria Park is set to be a day of live music, sport and fantastic entertainment for all. Whether you want to catch street dance, chill with some tunes or try your hand at volleyball, the Olympic Handover Party has it all going on.

Marking the end of the Olympic Games in Beijing and the beginning of the countdown to the 2012 London Olympics, the official handover will be seen by millions of people all around the world. Giving you the chance to make a day of it, and take part in some special sporting fun, the Tower Hamlets Olympic Handover Party is sure ot make for a very exciting day out.

As Victoria Park will become the location for the 2012 Olympic marathon and the long distance walk, there is no better place to celebrate the beginning of London's tenure as the official Olympic city. Loads of sporting activities will take place on the day of the handover party to mark this, meaning there will be plenty of inspiration for all to try out some new and exciting sports.

A host of Olympic and Paralympic sports will be on hand throughout the day as the park invites you to roll up your sleeves and have a go at some yourself. Cycling, basketball and volleyball are all up for grabs as the Olympic Handover Party gets underway, and all three sports can be adapted for disabled users too, meaning that everyone can have a go.

It's not just sport that will be keeping Victoria Park in the party mood for the day. Plenty of live music acts will be making the park rock with fantastic live sets and a celebratory atmosphere. Unique performances come to the party from the London Breakbeat Orchestra, and JD and the Longfellows. Walk the Plank and the Gulliver's Boom Box will be putting on a show of amazing street dance on a larger than life ghetto blaster.

Along with entertainment on the 21st century bandstand and plenty of sports for all, the Olympic Handover Party is centred around the end of the Olympics in Beijing and the moment that the Mayor of London takes up the Olympic flag. You can see this momentous occassion live at Victoria Park on a giant TV screen when London becomes the next official Olympic city."

The Olympic Handover Party at Victoria Park takes place 1pm - 6pm on Sunday 24th August 2008 and is free to attend.

Don't know if anyone went to this or to the big celebrations in the centre of town, but some pics here of the party.
But where was her maj? (the queen, not Madonna who I believe was failing to sell out in Wales)
