Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi we're looking for a photographer for our wedding but we don't want to go to town and pay an outlandish amount of money for mist-edged over-posed portraits.

Being a vibrant, creative community, we thought of Harringay online (!) and using a photography student or 'off duty' pro.

We will pay and are happy to negotiate a reasonable fee to pay for your time and expertise; we thought of asking a friend to do it but don't want to give our nearest and dearest things to do on the day.

We just want to capture the event - but we would like to briefly see a portfolio / proof that you can take ok photos.

Any interest? I'm happy to chat on phone if you could DM me your number. We need some ideas in next two weeks. Please ask around!

Thanks,

Alex

I have texted my friend your post. She is a fabulous photographer and film maker.

Congratulations! I've never been brave enough to tackle a wedding yet, but wish you both a wonderful day and I hope you find someone great!

HI, you could look at my husband, Andrew Wiard's, website. He's a photojournalist and wedding photographer. His wedding site is www.reportagestyle.co.uk or you can check out his other site at www.reportphotos.com.

He's an excellent photographer. He won't be the cheapest you'll find but he's flexible and not a rip off. Check out his site and email/phone him if you want a chat about anything. I'll try to attach a flyer for you.

All the best with your search.

Hi AxP,
We got married last summer and used someone we found through a harringay on line recommendation, his name is David Connolly. He takes reportage style photos; he has a really good eye for photos and we had so many comments on how great the pictures were. He's such a friendly guy, but when he's taking photos you don't even know he's there, so he gets really natural unstaged shots which tell a story and show the personalities of the guests (and bride and groom). The good thing about David is that he gave us an hourly rate, instead if charging for a "wedding package", so he was relatively inexpensive for a wedding, compared to some of the other eye-watering quotes we got. We have recommended him to others and they haven't been disappointed.
You can contact him/have a look at his work via his website http://www.insightfullight.co.uk/. Or Facebook https://www.facebook.com/insightfullight?ref=ts&fref=ts

Good luck with the wedding!

I can recommend Yvonne Chakra http://www.yvonnechakra.co.uk/. She has shot a number of friends weddings and will also shoot a wedding where I am the best man. She captures all the key moments and has a style all of her own. Particular good at capturing kids at weddings. She is based in Muswell Hill and so very nearby.

Also I can recommend Ed Osborn http://edwardosbornphotography.com/. Personally I chose Ed for my own wedding. Although we are both training to be architects his calling is as a brilliant photographer. Still uses film photography for that textured classic look. Again has his own style. He has shot a number of friends weddings following our recommendation and they have always enjoyed the results.

Both can do engagement shots and will be happy to do pre-meets and destination weddings.

I think Rob wanted to post this link:

And a word of advice against hiring someone who's not a pro photographer and going for simply someone who can "take ok photos". This is a very special day and trust me, things will go so quickly, you'll be in a whirlwind of faces and moments and it'll be over before you know. Photos are all you're left with for that day and you'd be surprised at how many things a pro photographer will capture that you weren't even remotely aware on the day. You don't just want "OK" photos, you want the best possible photos, you want to look the best you've ever looked, and you want to be able to look at them and relive all those special moments. Read here if I haven't convinced you yet:

And on top of that, you're getting married in a month's time - when most wedding photographers are booked up 2 years, 18 months in advance. If a photographer is free on a weekend in a month's time, in the full swing of the wedding season, it's probably not a good sign and alarm bells should be ringing. But you never know, some of them might have had a cancellation or something and they might be available.

Edward Osbourne's stuff is beautiful - you can kind of see an architectural interest coming through. That would fit with what we want as we've chosen architecturally interesting buildings but we'd be incredibly lucky to fit him in at short notice I am sure he is chokka - do you have a number for him? Unless I am being very stupid I can't seem to find it on his site?  Thanks for recommendation!

Googled it and got it so don't worry - thanks

Okay good luck!

I'm curious...what are your architecturally interesting buildings?

Hah that would be telling...! It is quite a commonly done thing that we're doing I think... I'll finish this post with a little description (and maybe a little photie) afterwards (now the whole of HOL is involved!) but I don't want to talk about it too much until we've done it and it's gone ok. I realise I am adding mystery and intrigue here.... there isn't any really!

As Cecilia said people do tend to like a wedding...!

Thanks all - we do now have an option on the table which is great for a weekend's work.
