Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

My car, parked on Lausanne Rd, had the window smashed last night. I took it to G&N garage who said that they knew of seven break ins over the last few days.

Moral - don't leave anything in the car, visible OR hidden.

what did they think they were smashing & grabbing for John? can't imagine you leaving stuff lying around in your vehicle

Usual target is TomTom or other valuables in glove box ( which was opened but TomTom is kept elsewhere ). I don't think they got anything from me - they just go in on spec.

So if anybody uses GPS navigator be sure to wipe marks off windscreen.

Gets more & more ridiculous doesn't it John. Used to be, 'take your holder off the screen'. Prefer the old fashioned paper maps myself.

Similar spate of this in Crescent Road N22 where I live. At least three, including my wife, in the last week.

Top of Cavendish Rd just past St Pauls church hall. 2 cars broken into this week.

Top of Ducketts too. Possibly the culprit is walking along Wightman Rd early hours dipping in & out of the top of the ladder roads to target these vehicles.

Sorry to hear about this :( This ongoing spate of thefts is a sad thing to hear about.

There has been a recent increase in Motor Vehicle crime as this thread indicates however it is Borough wide and not just on the Ladder.
There is currently an Operation taking place to address this issue and extra police will be patrolling the Ladder until early morning
We strongly advise people NOT to leave valuables or even clothing in their cars
Please if you have a Sat Nav make sure you always remove the holder as well and clean any evidence of use ie marks from your windscreen
A good tip to avoid having a window smashed is to not only have the glove box empty but also leave it open so any potential thief can see it is empty
Please pass this on to people you know

Yup, 2 such break-ins outside my house in the night in central Crouch End in the past couple of weeks.  My end of the street is a bit of a hot spot due to a high garden wall which offers perceived protection to thieves as it is less overlooked, as well as a 4-way junction offering loads of getaway possibilities.  Broken glass on the pavement used to be a regular morning feature, then it died down, particularly after a street lamp was installed.  Now it has started up again.

Also if your car has ashtray or other little covered nook leave that open as well, so they can see it's not got a few quid for parking meters. (Voice of experience - when I lived in Finsbury Park I had a window smashed every couple of month until I worked out all the things they were looking for.)

My sister's car was vandalised on Mount View Road (N4) a couple of weekends ago - the side mirror on the pavement side was kicked or punched during the night so that it was dangling from the side of the car and the plastic casing lying on the pavement. It was clearly just petty destruction of property, probably by some drunkard, and now the electronics of the mirror are bust (the car is just two months old!). Really infuriating as insurance would still have made her pay the excess to fix and it would affect her no-claims discount, as they have no third party to claim damages from. If anyone else has experienced vandalism please come forward, perhaps we can motivate for more patrols in the area.

At least five cars broken into at junction of Mount View Road and Oakfield Road on Thursday night.
