Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

"The aim of this proposal is to increase serving area at the rear garden of the café to give more for park user and allow them to have a better experience while they are visiting Finsbury Park. The idea is create open and semi-open spaces to allow better integration of user and the park while they can enjoy quality service of Park View Café. The goal is to generate a landscape architecture concept that the users should be still feeling that they are part of nature sting in the park enjoying their family time, but have the luxury and comfort of using facilities if the café provides in a safe environment.
"The proposal is consist of 6 timber huts erected to allow semi-closed space and timber decking additional open space sitting zones. All the existing trees will be retained and protected during building work as they are the most important elements for the success of this landscape development. The proposal also aims to introduce secured play areas for kids with different age groups. Furthermore water features will be introduced to bring more natural elements into landscape. The use of timber is aimed to give reference to surrounding nature , to create a harmony and unity within the park and blend in."

This is a good cafe and the area they are looking at is a bit neglected. Thumbs up from me.

But doesn't this represent another aspect of creeping commerical intrusion, albeit it small, into the park? The premise of the proposal is that a 'better experience' of the park is being able to buy and consume food. For me that isn't the case.

Can't people go anywhere these days without wanting to eat and drink?

Of course this will be very handy when the park becomes a summer long music/concert venue.

Look at on on Google Maps satellite View. To be fair, I think it's not a space that's used right now and extending the cafe probably counts and amenity enhancement.

thanks Hugh. I can't agree a community enhancement is about food and drink when obesity is such a problem! But that's a personal view.

Perhaps that area, if not used much at the moment, could have been turned into something else.

Oh well… perhaps I'm just plain old-fashioned.

....and a little grumpy of late, Ruth! Time to go to the park and eat cake and chocolate!

Me, grumpy??!!! oh dear… must be the weather. But I though HoL was a place to have a good old moan Hugh…

Whilst there is some truth in the old adage "A problem shared......." and sometimes it's good to get something off your chest, for me, I'd much rather that HoL was more a place for airing concerns and collaborating to find solutions than for having a good old moan.

errr, I was  joking Hugh. Even when grumpy I think I still have a sense of humour…

You may well have been joking, but given that I'm sure there are people who think just what you wrote, I wrote a reply with that in mind.

I've never been there, is the cafe currently accessible from inside the park?

Yes it is. It's really good actually. There is also a new cafe behind the new tower at Woodberry Down, upmarket Dalston style Turkish.

Really? Not heard about this one. What's it called?
