Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

From 8th of April 2014 after 12 years of life with us Windows XP becomes a part of history for Microsoft

What does it mean for an average computer user?

No more security updates, less protection and compatibility issues with software and other devices.

Microsoft still on daily bases solve the security issues releasing quite regularly the security updates and patches which protect majority of Windows XP users from virus and malware. After that day an average Windows XP user will only relay on their anti-virus software.

There are still two month for your decision which operating system you would like to use in a few years future. Realistically, you can go for Windows 7 or 8, buy yourself a new Mac or leave the Windows world and introduce yourself to Linux.

We all love Windows XP but the computer world moves forward

Thanks Marek for this information.  I am an XP user and, it seems that I shall have to change soon.  I would rather not buy a new comoputer at present so how should I choose between Windows 7, 8 and Linux?

It would be good first to look at the current hardware spec and check if your computer qualify for upgrade to Windows 7 or 8. If it does not than maybe there is an opportunity for Linux. If your computer performs quite slowly with Windows XP  major operation such as opening an Internet Explorer happens slowly than the hardware is not strong enough for system upgrade.

If your hardware is strong enough it would be possible to buy Windows 7 or 8 and install it after some memory upgrades.

If you decide to stay with MS, then windows 7 is much more straightforward than wndws 8, which is a complete pain in the arse if you're using it on laptop or desktop.. Linux is free, and seems to work well.
