Let's see if others are interested too and see what we might do.
Come along on the 9th Feb if you can. I think it should be fun.
There is quite a healthy backgammon community in the area already. There is a tournament every Thursday at the Toll Gate up at Turnpike lane - beginners welcome. And another newish one that I haven't been to but have heard great accounts of is at the Crooked Billet in Clapton, here are the details, that's run by Simon Moorcroft.
Next Backgammon in Clapton at The Crooked Billet, E5 9JP on Monday 27th January at 7pm. Knockout tournament, beginners tournament, good food, good beer and wine. £2 registration including a contribution to Backgammon in London. All results count towards the London Backgammon Tour.
Then there is another excellent regular spot run by Backgammon in London in the Lockside Lounge inCamden - but I'm not sure of the dates of that one - their website has it all.
I've been playing for years, it is a great game and a very sociable one - I have made many friends and even met my husband through the game.
Hi Jo, thanks very much for all the above. I am very much aware of the Backgammon in London network. I've been to the Camden one a few years ago with Mike Main and had seen that you can play at the Toll Gate on Thursdays. I'd be up there on Thursdays if I could for sure, but it is one of the two nights I can never make because I work then. The other night I work is Monday, which rules out both Camden and Clapton for me. So you can see my problem. All the meetings are Mondays or Thursdays. I think there is a monthly meet in Holland Park on Sundays I could go to but the idea of a monthly meet somewhere on Harringay Green Lanes really appealed to me. Maybe on a Sunday evening. It is a great game as you say and a really nice way to meet people.
It looks as if there are a few of us at the beginner to not very good (or rusty) but enthusiastic level. Maybe we could set up a first session soon - say in the next month. I will have a scout round for a good location to meet. Several possible places come to mind. Boards are obviously a necessity. I have one.
