I would like to propose that we set up a 'Friends of the Harringay Passage'.
This crucial 'spine' of the Harringay Ladder has been neglected for too long and maybe a community group will get their voices heard by Haringey Council more effectively than a few individuals.
The aims of the group could be:
- to keep the planters looking nice,
- work with the council to design out fly-tipping hot spots and remove street clutter
- design a Masterplan for making the Passage work better for pedestrians
- street party at the widest section, between Effingham and Fairfax!
Let me know if you are interested, and if enough people are then we could have an inaugural meeting in January.
Regards
Adam

Thanks to everyone who has responded so enthusiastically about forming this group.
We now have date for a meeting to decide how the group operates - Tuesday 21st January at 7pm in the Falkland Centre, North Harringay Primary School. The entrance is on Frobisher Road, just next to the Harringay Passage (opposite 59 Frobisher Rd). Thank you to North Harringay for letting us use this venue.
I do hope you can make the meeting - please let me know if are attending
I believe that the LCSP has done a huge amount over the last 15 years for the well-being of local residents in terms of safety, crime, licensing, planning, regeneration, improving the harringay passage, planting trees...
There would seem to be no need to reinvent the wheel, with duplication and parallel groups, generating more meetings and confusion I believe that the LCSP has done a huge amount over the last 15 years for the well-being of local residents in terms of community safety. It would be very helpful perhaps if residents joint the LCSP attending meetings and taking an active role it would be a far better way forward than setting up an overlapping group.
In my opinion there is no need for a new group to cover the same ground but without the knowledge and experience of the LCSP
Best wishes

To be fair I suspect most of us simply do not know what the LCSP do etc. We may be aware of them, but not necessarily abreast of their role in our community.
With that in mind it may be useful for someone to come to the fist meeting to explain their role so there is no duplication. That said, there may be scope for something like a Friends group for things the LCSP may not have an involvement or focus- as an example the raised beds (and I speak as one of the guerrilla gardeners that ahs taken ours under our wing). I think it is worth exploring.
Adam, I will be there on the 21st by the way.
It's NOT about safety/danger! It's about beauty in the built environment.
The passage is an amazing asset, some people get it, some people don't. This is not, as far as I am aware, just about safety, this is about making it loved: actually loved, not just admired as an unusual alleyway. It is a thing of beauty and needs attention.
I despair when I realise that those in power in Harringay associate the passage with danger.
...plenty of residents I know just appreciate it being there for the opportunities it affords for moments of cheap humour ;)
