Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This thread is part of an old thread about the recent drinks night out. It has now moved on to discussing the next drinks (or the one after that).

Some of us are looking into the idea of organising some live music for one of our HoL off-line drinks nights out.

Do we want a full on loud band, a little jazz/R&B, man & guitar in corner or, as Birdy suggests the backing track from a Mothercare store :) ?! We could of course do a music night separate from the monthly drinks, but I'd rather not.

Your thoughts greatly appreciated.

HoL Drinks: Always bring along conversation, wit & revolutionary zeal :)

You never know, someone might start a new political party called the Green Lanes massiv.

Nooooooo!

Your ideas on this then Birdy; Type of music? Organised with or separate to the monthly drinks?
I can't stand Jazz of any sort but I do like punk, ska, motown & northern soul with bit of fiddly dee folk thrown in. Not really background music though eh : )

I have a great CD "Beatles go Reggae" by various people, had it in the background at my wedding.
I'm a bit late, was not able to type yesterday...
Great to see everyone, and very nice to see a few new faces!
I was saying to the landlord that I quite fancy a 70s disco one saturday night. but not just for HoL members should be open to all. (it never gets that busy but I dont think 15 HoL members would fill the room) Would your DJ connections, vinyl sue and evil elvis be up for it Matt? Perhaps covering other decades of music bit of rocknroll bit of punk bit of salsa even etc. I think keeping the drinks night separate is a better idea, you cant chat with a load of noise I mean with a live band going on. We dont need to book the back room, we can just take it over.
No music on drinks night! It is meant to be for people to come along and meet the neighbours and have a chat. Music would certainly get in the way of that. If you want a music night, it should be separate from the 'offline drinks'.
Thats that then : )

I am sure there is something on in the back room anyway on Tuesdays?

The juke box is quite good in the Salisbury although the sound is poo!
I'm with you on this Liz.
Why not ask the musicians who played at the fete in Falkland Road last week? They are local and excellent! Could start with background music and chat with a band & a bop at the end...
Personally I'd hate having to shout over some band or other. Music is not why I go to these little gatherings, it's for the chat and the people there.
I think if there's a band, most of us will move to another part of the pub so we can chat.
If I want to go see a band I will do just that, but having loud music when you want to talk to people is bad both for us and the poor band that ends up being annoying rather than enjoyable.
OK, if it's going to happen it will be separate but I ain't organising it!

I do think more music at the Salisbury should be encouraged though.
THAT I agree with. In the back room, so people who come in for a drink and a social can sit at the front and chat.
I don't mind what sort of music... however if a loud band it may limit conversation...???
