At long last the promised pedestrian crossing over Green Lanes just north of Falkland Road, is being installed.
With luck, we won't ever have a repetition of the incident I saw a few years ago, when a man and his child on their way to school were knocked down by a hit-and-run driver.
Many thanks to the Green Lanes Strategy Group and to everyone else who has been pressing for this over the last several years, and special thanks to the more than 500 people who signed our petition in 2009/10.
This success shows that persistence pays.
Now let's get the crossing in Alroy Road!

Congratulations David. I know you have worked hard to get that in too.
Well done to all. Now we just need to get the off licence to stop illegally parking their van with the door open all day, which will cause the buses to get banked over the new crossing.
I have so many pictures of that guy over the years. Just crazy that he doesn't get tickets. His door is open so that the cameras on the bus don't get his registration number. I asked the ticket inspectors why they don't ticket him and they said it is because he is loading....
I've heard that is the case. Did you take it any further with the council?
David, have you any suggestions? (Sorry, I don't mean to deviate from the good news of this post, but it's something that I see will become an issue.)
Yes thank you and well done for getting it to happen, its a spot thats really needed a crossing. Shame it couldn't have the little green girls but it does look like its got a countdown timer which will be exciting :) Now all we need is that gate ...
Congratulations.
It's funny how common sense measures that really have an impact in safety need to be requested over and over again (one needs only waiting by that crossing to see people frustrated and finally making a run for that bus).
And yet you get millions to spend on speedbumps et al for other places where accidents have never been a problem.
Well done and thank you David. This is surely a life saver.
Good work but as a 50s/60s resident what happened? Back then there was a crossing by the QH with Belisha Beacons, studs etc I am sure....?
