Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
St Ann's Road incident
It looks like something serious happened in or just outside the Salisbury pub this evening. Police are there, the pub is closed and a police forensics tent is outside on the St Anne's rd entrance. Up the road people say there was a stabbing. Anyone know anything?

A man has died after a stabbing outside the Salisbury pub this evening , the Metropolitan police has confirmed.
The incident happened this evening. The man aged 44, died at around 9pm in hospital.
A murder inquiry is expected to be launched conducted by Scotland Yard's homicide and major crimes command.
Police say a man was taken by private car to the North Middlesex hospital. Staff called police at around 7pm because of the nature of the man's injuries. He was transferred to the Royal London hospital in east London, where he was pronounced dead just after 9pm.
Police say immediate next of kin have been informed. He is believed to have died after suffering stab wounds.
Police ask anyone with information to contact them or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
No arrests have been made.

Just to clarify.
The forensics tent put up by police is by the St Ann's Rd pub entrance and the pub is closed with police cordon tape around it.
There is no information about whether the victim or anyone possibly involved had been in the pub. So it might be the incident happened very close by, but any motive is yet to be determined.
The pub locally had a reputation for being trouble free, I think it is fair to say, and has been a great asset to the area, and taken security seriously.

I was in the pub (devoid of "riff-raff") when the police came through checking the whole place. Nobody was aware of anything untoward, and we left shortly afterwards, none the wiser.
A terrible shame, but let's not get over-excited and start blaming people and our fine local establishments.

I was in the Salisbury last night when the police closed it. The staff knew nothing about this incident and it certainly didn't happen inside the pub. The Salisbury doesn't open till 5pm. The fact that someone seems to have been murdered outside (?) tragic though it is is hardly the pub's fault. As it happens I arrived there about 7.30 and the pub was functioning normally and there was nothing happening outside and there were no police. They arrived about an hour later so I don't really understand the sequence of events. The deceased must already have been taken to hospital but why weren't the police there earlier?
As for the pub it's a great place, and Dave's a really good governor and a nice bloke. Lovely staff too. I've never seen any trouble there. He stays open late and at weekends he employs security. The Salisbury is a credit to Harringay and Green Lanes. Long may it prosper with Dave at the helm.

Many years ago there was a bar in Crouch End. (Yep, that's the one. Middle Class Crouch End). Where a young man was stabbed outside the pub opposite. He staggered across the road and the manager of the bar tended the young man and called the police and ambulance. Good actions you may think as the young mans life was saved by the managers actions (of which there was no mention). However, just like the Salisbury the bar became linked to the stabbing, even though the press were informed that the incident didn't occur anywhere near the bar they persisted with the story as emergency services show the call was made by the bar and the police and ambulance were called to the bar. Because of this incident the bar became voted by the Evening Standard as the worst bar in London (I think there were worse pubs and bars in London). That is the kind of damage that misinformation can do. Whatever the out come there is a family who is suffering a loss not matter what the cause of the incident. He is someones son.

It does appear that the attack had nothing to do with the public house outside of which it occurred.
Otherwise, and with so little known, I can say no more than that I wish solace to the victim’s family in their grief and success to the police in their investigation. Horrible events like this are rare in this neighbourhood, but they remind us of just how dangerous knives can be.

To show solidarity with our local after this terrible incident, I tried to pop into the Salisbury this evening (Thursday) and found that it was still closed, roped off and guarded by the police. The officer on duty hoped that it would be open on Friday and so should we all. I wonder whether the pub's commercial loss is insured.
I hope fellow Salisbury lovers will feel moved to make special efforts to show that we have not been deterred by this terrible incident. I shall certainly attend the HoL social on 25th that Liz mentions above and will try again before then.
As to the tragedy itself, I should like to know more about it as soon as possible and I hope that HoL will be our channel of communication.
