Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I may be last to the party with this, but another local Banksy piece has been ripped from it's wall to be sold by the Sincura group - in Tottenham.

Here's a slightly more informative account in the Graun.

I do believe I can spot some HoL-ers in the comments.

dont you think that if you are saying that banksy art should stay on the wall

then you have to be saying that all art should stay on the walls

like all the graffiti tags on the side of your house or in the street

because whether you like art or not is subjective

so to say banksy should stay and not other art is a bit silly

perhaps cllr kober and ms featherstone dont care about this logic as they are chasing popular opinion for votes?

many of the people in the comments under the guardian article seem to be saying that they think its good that the banksy is being sold. thats unusual to think that isnt it?

the people that banksy employs to wheat paste up his stencils should do a few stencils taking the pxss out of Cllr Kober and Ms Featherstone's politics satarising haringey council and put the stencil on haringey council owned wall and see how long before the council "accidentially " clean it off by mistake

but never mind because they like banksy so he could get his boys to go do more stencils with their permission to replace ones removed... because Cllr Kober and Ms Featherstone like art and dont mind if they are satarised by banksy...

why does banksy get his mates to stick up his stencils on private walls where the owners can sell off the stencils ? why doesnt he always do his art on public walls? is it so he can tell the owners of the walls what he is doing before hand and then put up the screens to hide his people sticking up the stencils without anyone seeing them putting up the stencils?

why do people say the stencils are by banksy as there is no proof that he put stencils on wall himself. Infact he never does. Its a bit of a con really.

What comments...have they been removed (and auctioned)?

They are there now. Graun comments seem to come and go, maybe depending on when they have mods in place.

I think a lot of unfair criticism has been placed on the Sincura Group. I know the company, and they are an honest and moral business. They don't go round finding banksy artworks to rip off walls and sell.
People approach them and they evaluate every piece on merit. They sit with the owners and explain the impact it has. They do not own these pieces, they are no involved in the removal, they just manage the process. They have never taken a single penny in profit from banksy's street artwork.
At the end of the day if the owners of these pieces wish to sell them then surely it is better going to experts in the field who can ensure the art is restored to it's full glory (i saw slave labour and it was stunning), sold in a controlled manner, and that something good comes out of the sale (ie donations of funds to charities).

Good to hear from you Jane. What amounts are donated to charity & to which charities, assuming you know this info. If not can you please find out for us, assuming that this info isn't to be kept from the public of course. Thanks.

Any news on the amount and destination of the charitable donation made by Sincura following the sale of the Wood Green Banksy? Sincura Group promised at the time to donate all profits to charity and we had hoped it would go to a local Harringay charity however we have had no news. Could you please let us know Jane?

Yes, and perhaps an explanation for that peculiar comment about the work being "not appreciated in situ" would be appropriate also. I find that about as offensive as the removal of the piece in the first place...on the contrary, in an area that is not exactly bursting with art I would argue it was very much appreciated, and more so than elsewhere.

it does say that the money from the sale of the banksy art will go to  kids charities

that would be a good reason for removing the artwork i would have thought if kids benefit

i dont understand why haringey council and ms featherstone, arent lobbying the police to arrest banksy for criminal damage, when his art has appeared on non privately owned walls

is it because banksy is an ex public school boy who does art the public like rather than another type of person who is an artist?

if the police did go round to banksy's house to arrest him, then the police could say we are arresting you for criminal damage because everytime a banksy stencil appears on a wall on your website you claim it was you who did it

but then banksy could say well actually i was lying and i actually dont do any of my artwork, i get other people to do it for me. i just sit at home and make the stencil i dont paint it on the wall

and then the police say so you are just conning the public and then going to the banksy with the profits of your artwork that satarised capitalism

and banksy replies "er yes i am actually so you cant arrest me" and i have already said that people who spend alot of money on my art are idiots. A quote from his expensive banksy  book...

its not as if the hypocritical authorities dont know who banksy is

case closed

I think it will be the commission from the sale. Not the million quid or so the Banksy will be sold for.
