@harringayonline Three Compasses, Hornsey High St should meet his ale requirements. They do food
The Southampton Arms in Gospel Oa is small ..old feeling but has great ales on..not really suitable for kids though... But locally dare I say the Maynard on Park Road N8 as been having some lovely pints of local breweries from Twickenham and Camden which are all tasty ! and they let kids in and do a good Sunday lunch..booking advisable.
The Garden Ladder serves (local) Redemption beers and does Sunday lunch, although I must admit I haven't tried it myself. I vote the Rose & Crown, Stoke Newington Church St: a classically beautiful pub with great drinks and food and suits families. Gets busy but they serve all day and may take bookings. It's a nice walk up through Clissold Park and even along the New River (Homebase to The Castle) if you're energetic.
Agree re Southampton arms, it's great for beer (outstanding, I'd say) but not for kids or lunch. The Bull is recommended but it's quite a way. Sounds like The Brownswood has improved somewhat, must give that a try!
The Brownswood is awesome now, compared to what it used to be like.
It's not that difficult to get to The Bull, just take the W5 from the other side of the bridge by Harringay Library then get off at Stanhope Rd and it's ten mins walk from there. Or you can walk up the Parkland Walk.
