I went out to walk my dog today just before 4pm and a group of children, boy and girls, were in the passage with their mother.
My dog was having a sniff, he is a bit deaf so he wasn't aware of the kids.
I couldn't believe my eyes when the boy (age 8-10) stepped forward and kicked my dog in his belly. I asked him why he did it, because his mother did nothing and just walked on. I asked the mother why she didn't say anything because this behaviour isn't right.
She then started saying to the kids they had to continue walking, said to me I was a crazy woman and I should watch my dog and mind my own business.
That's what I was doing! Minding my own business, walking my 16 year old dog until your child comes and kicks him out of nowhere!
I am beside myself with rage, I can handle a lot but not this kind of behaviour towards animals. This boy will grow up thinking this is normal.
The kids definitely go to North Harringay School. They were in the passage in their school uniform and the mother was wearing a pink scarf on her head. And they were walking in the passage from NH School.
I've had issues before with a man and two boys , also from NH School (different people), telling me I can't walk my dog because there are children everywhere and dogs are dirty. He shouted very obscene words to me, in front of his kids.
I wonder what to do now. Someone said I should file a complaint at the school maybe?
Any thoughts?

As suggested, complain to the school, stand at the gates and pick this sorry lot out so they can be told that this is NOT the way to behave, and is so far from acceptable it's not even true. I'm so angry adding his post, I have a good mind to come with you and give these people a swift kick to see how they like it! AARGGHHH!
Your poor dog, I am sorry to hear this. I think Justin's idea is the best, gentle education rather than too much shaming the kids or the family. The kids have obviously been given the wrong idea about dogs and don't have respect for animals.
Just a suggestion like; wouldn't it have been more productive to contact the school directly in calm, measured response rather than sensationally, dramatising the event on here?
I am sure if any customer of the HM would to feel aggrieved with any of the traders for example, you would surely prefer to be contacted directly rather than whipping up hysteria on here?
This of course doesn't excuse any of the accused supposed behaviour. I had two dogs up until a couple of years ago, I always reeled them in close to my side when I saw kids or people who looked uncomfortable. Kids, dogs, adults; the latter should know how to act accordingly.
Bit confused by this comment. No, on the contrary I'd have thought the first thing most people would do if something bad happened in an area that has its own forum would be to discuss it on the forum with local people who (a) might encounter the same issues and (b) are likely to be uniquely sympathetic to the situation - which must have been really upsetting btw. Perhaps I'm completely weird in your eyes but if this had happened to me it would absolutely be my first instinct to flag it up here. Particularly if I wanted a steer on how to handle it/whether or where to report, etc.
Also, why pick on this case? Do you say the same to anyone who moans about Veolia on HoL? Should they be privately going to that company rather than shaming them publicly, which is far more likely to make a differencE?
Social media is a fantastic way to connect with people on this type of issue and it seems a bit strange to use it to disagree in this way.
A short sub-thread of conjecture on cultural attitudes that may underlie this incident has been deleted by site admin lest it should give offence. There is no inference implied about the authors' motives in making their comments.
I would just like to add that whilst having your dog kicked is horrible, it's not really to anyone's benefit to suggest (a) that finding the culprit and 'giving them a swift kick' or (b) that this is possibly the sign of a serial killer or child abuser in the making.
Such contradictory, vindictive and hysterical comments do nothing to help solve the initial issue raised and lend the site - or at least the thread - an air of slight hysteria!
Just my tuppence worth on the matter, but perhaps one worth pondering.
I have over seven decades avoided producing children, keeping dogs on or off leash, traversing Harringay Passage during the school run, patronising NHP, SHS, or any Sunday market on either site.
I offer myself as judge and neutral arbiter in this difficult case. Clearly a higher level of wisdom than that of Solomon is called for. As the dog's owner and eye-witness describes the assault as a belly kick, am I precluded from opining that the headline would read better as: "My dog was kicked by a child in the back passage today" ?
*cough* It was only a matter of time before someone lowered the tone...
I would try the Social Networking justice route, get pictures of these people and circulate them, also pass them on to the RSPCA who have the power to do something.
The problem with talking directly to the school is that there is every chance they will say it's nothing to do with them as it happened off school property while the children were in the care of a parent.
Can you take someone with you to capture photos or video if you see them again?
Sadly this kind of behaviour continues until something or someone does something to put a stop to it. I'm sure they'd have been all over you had your dog bitten them in retaliation.
Good luck and poor Joris.
