Independent fair finance not for profit organisation Move Your Money has got wind of Haringey Council's plans to appoint new bankers. In support of their broader campaign they have started a petition aimed at locals to demand that the council dumps current bankers RBS and chooses an ethical banker.
Move Your Money UK is an independent not-for-profit organisation working to raise awareness about the broad range of financial institutions available to customers in the UK. One of their aims is to strengthen the ethical banking sector
The organisation points out the that where organisations the size of our council bank can make a huge difference to the country. "If Haringey's money were to be invested in an ethical, mutual or local financial service it could make a huge difference to those living within our city."

Let's hope our money hasn't been placed with Cyprus banks. Did we ever get anything back from Iceland ?
There's a branch of the Co-operative Bank round the corner from the council offices, of course. They don't offer great interest rates, though.
Years ago, the council had their account with Co-op. I'm surprised to read that they switched to RBS.
But they usually follow the example set by adjoining boroughs, originality was never Haringey's strongest thing.
