Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Tonight I went with Jessica from Harringay Market to the opening of Crepanini, Harringay's newest restaurant, slap-bang by The Salisbury.

We were warmly welcomed by the Greek Cypriot- Bulgarian team of three who have set up the restaurant. There's Cypriot Peter, his Bulgarian wife Christina and their half Cypriot-half Bulgarian partner Giorgi / Jorgos (I'm not sure which version he prefers!).

Peter has deep roots in Harringay, having moved into a house at the bottom of Alison Road as a young boy in the Seventies. Although he now lives in Hertfordshire, he retains a real fondness for Harringay and is full of stories of Harringay as it was. So, after years of seeing Greek businesses move out of Harringay, he's decided to reverse the flow and make a return to his roots.

The opening was a very traditional affair with all the trimmings including a blessing by a Greek Orthodox priest.

It's a compact venue since they only have the front half of the premises that was previously occupied by the old  Greek boys club. As far as decor is concerned, there's a bit of a 'Snog' vibe going on - lots of white seventies curves with coloured lights around the serving bar.

I arrived pre-stuffed, so didn't have more than a few bites of Jessica's chocolate and banana pancake. But from what I had, I'll certainly be going back to give it another try.

Oh, and I nearly forgot the main guy Tony. Whilst he may still be at school, he clearly has his hand on the tiller! Thanks for the great service, Tony!

At his age I'd have my hand in the till!

Lots of new places opening up - there's another Turkish sweet shop just about to open near the bridge, and I passed one I hadn't seen before on the left side going up GL today, with a woman in the window making flat breads filled with spinach etc, and counters inside selling sweets.

The Baklava place on the left in Niyazi Usta - more on that here. They started doing goezleme a couple of months back. I guess trade wasn't good and they saw the attention Hala's goezleme ladies attracted.

I noticed the new place up your way earlier in the week, Gazantiep Patisserie - so another cake shop, perhaps?

Finally something different in Haringey! Crepanini is the feel good place with the welcoming atmosphere. An excellent menu with some unusual combinations of ingredients. They serve a great selection of coffees; paninis and pancakes. Me and my husband tried 2 delicious savoury pancakes. We struggled to find space for the sweet ones but we couldn't resist trying them...lovely! We are definitely coming back!

Ate there yesterday and loved it. Can recommend the "pestonini" or experimenting with your own creation. The team are very friendly, too, so I'll be back. Good luck! 

We have just had a lovely lunch at Crepanini. The food was really good and it is very nice having something different in the area. They were very friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend!

just had a lovely dinner with the kids in an unexpectedly relaxed and grooooovy interior. Really liked it as did the kids. my 9 year old even started composing his own 'thumbs up' review... we all thought it was much nicer on the inside than you can imagine from the outside.

Just had a pepperonini - very tasty!  

Nice to see some more Greek business on the high street!

Trudy and I had a latish breakfast at Crepanini this morning and very good it was.  A baconini contains feta, spinach, mushrooms as well as bacon.  Excellent coffee served in elegant cups.  Yorgos was holding the fort alone and making a very good job of it.

We really are spoiled for choice in this area but this is a delightful addition nonetheless and its appearance is an improvement on the dingy net curtains of the earlier club.
