Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Bye bye Banksy!

For a few days now I've suspected something was afoot with Turnpike Lane's Banksy; it's been surrounded by scaffolding and tarpaulin since Wednesday - and there was a security van present for much of that time.

This morning I had a sneaky look under said tarpaulin to find it had been removed. I spoke to the guy rendering the wall and he said that after repeated attempts to gouge it out, the owner of the Poundland building had decided to take steps to 'preserve' it. He wasn't sure where it's gone...one can only wonder if it's been sold. Sad to see it go - it was nice to have a landmark of sorts...

It is not a banksy end of, it is a kit which anyone can buy online. I think we could possiblly see hundreds of Banksy turning up on buildings and so forth hhmm

Walked past there this afternoon. There was an OB van but no crews set up, just lots of photographers. I should have made a banner!

Harringay Online has had a fair amount of mention worldwide on various networks, as has freelance journalist Antonia Kanczula (AntK on HOL); egs. CNN , Radio Canada. But then the BBC has been running this all day across News24 & Radio4 without even a mention of little ole HOL.

The Slave Labour stencil was Banksy's work as he has publicly acknowledged it.  Not sure about the rat though.  But as no one 'owns' copyright, why doesn't a local artist (there are enough of them about) just make a stencil from one of the numerous photos that have been taken, and stencil the Slave Labour pic on the concrete again.  I would do it, but I'm not skilled enough.  Please do it someone.  It's all about location, not the artist.

The news of the banksy removal from sale has come from freelance journalist Richard Luscombe who writes for The Guardian and is based in Miami. Looks like he attended the auction.
