Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I met Steve about a year ago when I tried to help point him in the right direction for finding a suitable premises for an organic cafe on Green Lanes.

Today, just a year later I got an email to say that all systems are go. Read about it here

OOh nice. Where is it?

Woohoo!! Can't wait until it's open.  I'm signing up to their website now.

It's in the old Juliana 99.

Great news!

This is brilliant news.

indeed, brilliant.

do we know anything else about their plans? as almost no info on their website so far? what kind of food, drinks? when?

Will watch with interest - good coffee is always worth chasing!

Brilliant to hear it's happening. Really looking forward to the opening.
Great news! Can't wait for it to open.

I've been saying for ages we needed another Moka-type cafe in the area - a bit of diversity in local eateries would be welcome.

Good morning, and wow! We are overwhelmed by all the positive responses. Thanks To Hugh for mentioning us!

There is definitely a lot we haven't mentioned yet about our plans and ideas, partly because we are still working on them and probably will continue to do so until the day we open. We are also listening to what we hear from you, since we want "blend" to become your cafe as much as ours. So please drop us an email, comment or tweet, and we promise to keep you posted on all news and plans via our website (www.localblend.co.uk), Twitter and Facebook.

However, in this thread a few questions have come up that we can answer immediately:

We've taken over the former Juliana cafe between Alison and Beresford Road.

We hope to open in mid-April (Fingers crossed!). Works began this morning at 7:30am.

Our food philosophy: We will cook from scratch and on site as much as we can. And while we're not strictly organic, we will carefully select ingredients and suppliers, try to buy as local, seasonal and organic as possible and we would never, ever use an egg that is not from a free range hen. We hope to offer you our favourite cakes, pastries, sandwiches and a small lunch menu. Tell us what you like!

We'll serve coffee from a fantastic London coffee roaster whose name we will publish as soon as we've finalised things with them.

Again, thanks so much, we are hugely excited about your interest! Please get involved. Let us know what you're thinking and follow our updates.
See you soon!

Hi Steve & Linda

This all sounds fantastic and I hope everything goes as smoothly as possible as you set things up. I'll be one of the first people through your door in mid-April!

I thought as you're currently in the process of having the interior reconstructed that it might be worth putting in a plea for a buggy-friendly entrance and/or area. Sadly we can no longer go to Moka with our toddler which is a real shame, and the thought of another good cafe where we could take him *and* enjoy proper coffee is a truly tantalising one.

No doubt others will chime in here and say 'no, keep the wretched buggies & babies out', and I suppose it's an individual cafe-owner's prerogative to decide whether to exclude or include a particular segment of their market. But if you do make at least a part of your cafe welcoming and accessible to those with small children (keeping a part somewhere else - up the back, say - for those who don't want to deal with the sight or sound of kids) then I think that would be a sensible business decision, given that we're an area with what feels like a very high proportion of young families.
