The Hunger Banquet (Oxfam) - let's get involved!
Dear Harringay residents,
Thank you for all those who attended our previous event at Oxfam shop Wood Green. We're planning another fantastic event soon - The Hunger Banquet - that you might be interested in.
Even though there's enough food to feed everyone, The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations reports that in 2010 about 925 million people worldwide were malnourished.
The aim of The Hunger Banquet is to show the unfair distribution of food (and other resources) around the world. In a nutshell: all participants draw food tickets that allocate them to one of the three groups - the poor (70%), the middle-class (25%) and the rich (5%). Each group receives different kind of food, with the richest getting the best meal and dining at a table. This is an excellent opportunity to remind us all that what we get to eat every day is just a matter of lottery!
With a little bit of determination, this inequality can be fixed, however. We want to ask our politicians to:
- urge the government to force large companies to pay their taxes,
- spend the promised 0.7% of the UK budget on aid,
- promote greater transparency in business, so that local communities always benefit from investment.

Dear all,
The introduction meeting will be held this Monday at 6.45pm, probably at Wetherspoon Wood Green (just next to the tube station, where the cinemas are). It should be reasonably quiet at this time so hopefully we'll have a nice chat! See you there.
