I have again asked for some enforcement action by the council against HGVs using Wightman Road and the ladder roads.
I am pleased to say that I have just had an email from the Parking Infrastructure Manager to say that they will be carrying out some enforcement this week between 7am and 8.30am.
Lets hope it starts to send a message to the companies that they lorries belong to.
It needs to start at 6am. Sadly. 6:30 at the latest.
Although some of us get these HGVs at all hours - one memorable morning I thought there really was an earthquake when the whole house shook at 1am!
There's something that shakes my house violently every afternoon between 3 and 4 p.m. - I keep meaning to lay in wait for it but forgetting.
I would be interested to know what kind of enforcement action will they be providing? Many thanks
As far as I am aware they use the little white enforcement cars. I think they were quite taken aback by the number of vehicles breaking the ban, hence doing some further enforcement next week. I am following up the signage issues, particularly where signs seem to have been removed and not replaced. Effective signage is only part of the problem but it certainly helps. I took the name and reg number of a massive lorry last week - I wrote to the company concerned but am yet to get a response - I won't hold my breath. Its a massive nut to crack but those shouldn't stop us trying!
Have they said that they will put up the signs? No use enforcing if they don't have the signs up to alert HGVs that they shouldn't be using ladder roads. Jewsons, in particular, have pointed this out a number of times.
I think that's part of the problem Karen - those signs are really easy to miss, particularly at the Turnpike Lane end where the road is very wide. They really need to go back to having additional signs at the entrance to every street on the Ladder - which used to be the case (almost). Frankly, the more signs the better - otherwise it may be a get-out for any enforcement action if a driver can claim insufficient warning.
I am also unclear how these HGVs are supposed to get to Green Lanes if they're coming from Hornsey. If they can't turn onto Wightman, and there's no right turn at Turnpike Lane, how do they access Green Lanes?
They turn left, go up to Wood Green and then back out onto Green Lanes.
