Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi,

Today I bought some fish from Northfield I believe that they're called. They were ringing everyone's bell on Allison and according to them they've been doing this for 6 years. I bought some off them, and he showed me a huge amount of money from people who had bought from him today. I'm a sucker for fish so I bought some too, but they're a bit expensive...

Anyway it was a bit odd that no one's ever mentioned them, nor have I seen them earlier, and according to him they're here selling door to door every 6 weeks.

Anyone know about them?

Thanks

They came down Seymour yesterday (or another fish seller did). I also asked how often the came and they said every few weeks which was odd as I've not come across them before. I didn't have any cash so didn't buy anything - what was it like?

Sounds familliar.

I've bought fish from Alan from the North-East. They come around every couple of months. Nice man.

We still use Craig every week and the quality is fantastic. He is usually in the ladder roads about 8.00 ish every Monday evening. Jessica let me know if you want me to ask him to come round to yours.

I would also love to have Craig's number if possible! thanks!

If they're from N.E. England, then I do know of them.    They come here intermittedly.   I've never bought from them as I don't do any door to door stuff since being caught out years ago.

How was the fish anyway?   Was it worth the money?

There's been a van coming to the door for over 20 years who say they are selling fresh fish from Grimsby. I stopped buying years ago for three reasons; a) they seem a little bit pricey, b) they sold me some 'wild salmon'- I discovered it was not the right season for it, c) you can get a good selection from Purkis at Crouch End and at Muswell Hill, or the Farmer's Market at Ally Pally (cheap deals nearer to 3pm!)

Hi Jessica - I bought some fab seabass from Alan of Northumberland last Friday. I thought it was a bit random at the time but it was delicious. Alan seemed very nice.

I  don't think £10 a pack is expensive. My husband bought 2 salmon cutlets from M&S recently and they were £6. A good size, and in the pack( previouse message) there were 6 different types of fish. Not bad. Even if the size of the pieces were slightly smaller than average I still think the deal is ok. It is time and hopefully polystyrene packageing you may be avoiding!

Hi,

Thanks for posting Jessica. I was thinking the same thing myself having also bought five packs of fish on the spur of the moment (£48).  Same day, same guy, but it's North Shields Fisheries, not Northfield.  So far we've had lemon sole and smoked haddock, both very good, but I'm unsure of price and source, so will review in a few weeks.

I bought some too - a guy from Northumberland. The fish was good. They said they come down on Thursdays and had been doing it for years, though I had never seen them.

I've had many cold callers knocking on my door in the past months who represent'Northumberland Fisheries and Paul's Fisheries.

Not so long ago i purchased a discount pack from Northumberland fisheries which cost me £260 for 20 packets of fish. When i realised that half the fish were not labeled,i contacted the comapany and spoke to Alan who assured me there was nothing to worry about and the fish was all from the same catch. The fish was ok but the reason for no lables is that the Monk Fish,Sea Bass,John Dory and Dover Sole whereall another species of white, RIP OFF!!

Another company called Paul's Fisheries was around 2 weeks ago and after explaining to him what i experienced when buying fish at the door. He assured me that his company was all above board and that he had nothing to do with Northumberland Fisheries. In fact he expalined in great detail that Northumberland Fisheries have been poaching his rounds for many months now and that they are knowen COWBOYS in the trade who use High-pressure techniques when selling door to door, selling sub-standard fish and deliberately selling the fish as another more expensive species.

As a reassurance he suggested that i look at his website http://paulsfisheries.co.uk/ where i would see a picture of him along side his vehicle, while he served a regular customer who buys all the time off him,so i did and yes i bought some fish as it seemed very legitimate. Once again bulk buy only but smaller than the previous amount 10 packets for £90 which was a little cheaper but quality of the fish is not as good.

Another knock at the door this week'Northumberland Fisheries'After i gave him a earful and i shared with him the information that Paul's Fisheries shared. He insisted that i should look up the following site and don't listen to rubbish that Paul's Fisheries has to say as Paul Henderson is the brother of Craig Henderon. The brothers traveled up and down the country under the name of Henderson Fisheries. Craig Henderson recieved a jail sentence in 2009 for his involement in the fish scam.

I guess Paul Henderson was the one that got away...

As for the COD FATHERS i won't be buying FISH off either of them.
