Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I have received this from the project engineer regarding enforcement of the 7.5 t weight restriction.

Do let me know if you think enforcement is not happening and I can chase it up.

“The zones signage has now been upgraded to ensure it complies with current regulations and with the correct signage in place, enforcement of the restriction will be carried out wherever possible. Please note that with the restrictions in place, an exemption provision applies to vehicles who wish to gain access and therefore our enforcement will not eliminate all overweight vehicles, furthermore we cannot enforce this location at all times.

We will use our mobile CCTV enforcement vehicles to capture footage of overweight vehicles entering the restricted zone on Wightman Road. This will then be reviewed and entered into our Penalty Notice processing system and a postal PCN will be issued to the Registered Keeper of non exempt vehicles that fail to comply with the prohibition.”

Speedingand heavy loads are a problem on every ladder road I think.  We certainly get many early wake-ups and shaking houses on Lausanne Road too.  Still so much better than where I previously lived where police cirens were a big problem.  Keen to keep it this way and improve it but there seems to be virtually no traffic police these days in London so unless they put speed cameras and cameras monitoring the loads going in to and out of each road I dont see how it will ever get enforced.

I know that in some areas, citizens have taken to doing speed gunning for themselves and local police have worked with them to action the outputs.

I'm resurrecting the thread I'm afraid. As a new arrival in Warham Road I'm shocked at the lack of enforcement. In the two months here I haven't seen a single enforcement vehicle. I'm considering getting a little CCTV camera to capture the offenders. Has anyone had any recent success with either the council or vehicle operators?

I managed to get O'Donovans to stop using Lausanne Rd as a shortcut after collecting a lot of registration numbers and visit times. I had to pester them a few times but eventually the foreman put a note in their pay packets and that seemed to do the trick. I also shamed the council into not letting OnTime use Lausanne Rd but... as far as I can see they now use Raleigh instead.

OnTime have been using Falkland Road since I moved here in August. Several times I emailed supervisor@ontime-parking.com moments after the offender drove past my home and requested an acknowledgement. Alas there was no response.

Nicholas, if you haven't already done so, can I suggest you raise this formally with the Council; copying-in the Parking Service (who manage the OnTime contract) and your three ward councillors.

Make clear that you have recorded the dates and details and have an email trail.

(Tottenham Hale ward councillor)

P.S. I used the email address you gave to check if it was working. I got an immediate reply which said it goes straight to the OnTime Car pound. (As I assume you know, it's the email given for OnTime on Haringey's website.)

After getting woken at around 6am with a load boom and a shake as a skip trick hurtled up Warham Road I've had enough.  CCTV camera in the post to me.  It'll be name-and-shame time of both the council and the operators.

In my experience just recording the registration number and getting the livery details was sufficient. They really don't slow down for them though do they. And at that time of the morning you can't help but think that the driver is taking some perverse pleasure in the noise he is making.

That is assuming you are awake, have your glasses on, stand by the window with pen and paper at the ready.  When you get woken up by these large vehicles you stand no chance ...

Exactly.  So this CCTV camera has motion detection and will only record when a car or lorry drives past.  I hope to set up my computer to record them with time and date etc.  I'll just pop it in the upstairs front room pointing out of the window and tell it to trigger whenever something drives past.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.  It would be so much easier if Haringey took an interest in traffic management and there was more police traffic enforcement in general
