Alexandra Park was voted second favourite amongst London parks and beat off stiff competition to come fourth overall in the national vote at this year’s prestigious People’s Choice Award, which featured 1,424 parks and green spaces.
The award is organised by Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Plus Partnership, which gives out Green Flag status to the best open spaces in the country.
Mark Evison the Park Manager said:
“This great result shows that Alexandra Park’s wide range of landscapes and attractions appeal to a large and diverse number of people, not only from the local community but across London and beyond. I am delighted that fans of the Park were prepared to make the effort to vote and this shows how highly they value Alexandra Park as a green space. We are very grateful for this support, confirming our reputation as the “People’s Park”, which is fitting as we prepare to celebrate our 150th year in 2013.”

Excellent & well deserved. 150th for next year - lets hope there's a massive fireworks display for guy fawkes night. And some imaginative celebratory events.
Matt too I enjoyed the fireworks.
But unless you or someone you know is prepared to pay for them, I'm fairly sure they won't be coming back any time soon. Including security, the cost is in the order of £100,000 for about 30 minutes worth of display.
Our charity (and the local council who control it) has higher priorities for the foreseeable future.
I hope that one day, probably in the distant future when the country has dug itself out of the massive debt hole in which it currently resides, the fireworks can be held again.
