It's a hard news kind of a day. So I thought I'd get in there with this earth shattering piece of information. It's....ahem....new, important and relevant!
Perhaps not, but a way to while away a few minutes when you need a bit of displacement.
Antipodes Map will enable you to see what's exactly on the opposite side of the world to any place you want. We're bang opposite nothing.....well almost nothing; we're bang opposite the international date line in fact. Didn't I tell you it was going to be exciting!
What else can we learn of the world?

Hugh. I thought I had a lot of time on my hands...
Haha, 'was was just about to post... He has too much time on his hands!
I have to add that it isn't exactly surprising, given how close we are (relatively) to Greenwich, that we're opposite the International Date Line...
In my defence, it was something I came across whilst sourcing something for work - we all need displacement activities, nah?
I don't know what you mean (she says, typing from her desk at work...)
BTW, NZ is opposite Spain (above).
ONE of the main reasons that Greenwich was accepted (except for many years, by France) as the prime meridian, is that the opposite longitude - and where the date would change - was through a largely uninhabited area of ocean: right down through the Pacfic, with a few kinks along the way. That, and the fact that Britain was the dominant maritime nation in Victorian times.
