Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Just finished my first day as a volunteer at the Olympics. Fantastic and exhausting. Any other volunteers on HoL?

Well done on being a volunteer Michael.

I met another volunteer on my way back from watching the opening ceremony up at Holland Heineken House. One of the NHS nurses (a real one of course) was just about to return to Chettle Court and still in sparkly costume and I heard about all the rehearsals she and her colleagues had been doing.

I watched it all again last night on BBC iPlayer.

On the second viewing, I was able to see, when the suburban house lifted up to reveal Sir Tim Berners-Lee, that he had a NeXT Computer on his desk. That was the computer on which Sir Tim built the world wide web, on which you're reading this right now.

And NeXT was the company founded by the late Steve Jobs after he was booted out of Apple. When much later, Apple bought NeXT and Jobs returned, the UNIX-classs operating system of the NeXT machine would form the foundation of Mac OS X, at the heart of all Macs since 2001. One has to be quite nerdy to know this and to recognise a NeXT machine in dark shadow!

I thought the opening ceremony was a triumph of imagination, hugely impressive.

Still haven't managed to see the opening (been asleep for a 4am start) but have recorded it and will watch out the the Tim Berners-Lee bit.

its on bbc iplayer by the way

Ta

Yup - performer in the Paralympic opening ceremony - which meant I got a ticket to the fantastic opening ceremony dress rehearsal last Wednesday night.

Lucky you! I'm working at Horse Guards Parade and The Mall and got to see the end of the women's cycle race and a fair bit of beach volley ball. Incredible atmosphere.

I'm performing in the paralympic opening ceremony too! I'm doing one of the dance routines, have a rehearsal tonight in fact. And got a ticket to the olympic opening dress rehearsal and thought is was amazing, particularly the drumming being there

Hi there

I'm at T3 volunteer driver.

S :-)

Yup,

I'm a volunteer for the Paralympics at Eton Dornay though how I am to get there for a 6.30 am start I just do not know as I don't drive!  I got a ticket for the rehearsal last Wednesday too - fabulous atmosphere and I loved the tribute to the NHS, but there was so much blanked out because they were keeping Mr Bond and Mr Bean secret that I actually enjoyed the TV more!

Really getting into the spirit of everything.  I got a ticket to the dressage at Greenwich Park on Sunday and it is the most fantastic venue - just shows off how beautiful London is, and they have done a great job of preserving the trees and important plant sites.

Everyone at HoL enjoy the Olympics and Paralympics - it's fantastic!

I'm a Driver / PA Games Maker at the Paralympics and also a London Ambassador at Exhibition Road / South Kensington during the transition period so am being kept busy.

Was also at the dress rehearsal of the opening ceremony last Mon - found it really moving and having watched it on TV got to fully understand some of the British nuances!

A great Games so far and looking forward to more of the same!

Enjoy all!

They wash and dry really quickly. I,m allowing my self a bit of a boast. I took Cherie Blair to her seat today. Very warm and friendly. The best prime minister we never had.

Good for you!!
