Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I have received this from the project engineer regarding enforcement of the 7.5 t weight restriction.

Do let me know if you think enforcement is not happening and I can chase it up.

“The zones signage has now been upgraded to ensure it complies with current regulations and with the correct signage in place, enforcement of the restriction will be carried out wherever possible. Please note that with the restrictions in place, an exemption provision applies to vehicles who wish to gain access and therefore our enforcement will not eliminate all overweight vehicles, furthermore we cannot enforce this location at all times.

We will use our mobile CCTV enforcement vehicles to capture footage of overweight vehicles entering the restricted zone on Wightman Road. This will then be reviewed and entered into our Penalty Notice processing system and a postal PCN will be issued to the Registered Keeper of non exempt vehicles that fail to comply with the prohibition.”

About bloody time! Thanks Karen. Do you have any idea what action the enforcement will take on a report submitted by residents? Is it worth our reporting infringements? If so how can we be most helpful in how we report, e.g. Do pictures help?

And by the rather cryptic "Wightman Road Area", do you mean the Ladder?

Yes, it certainly does cover the whole of the Harringay Ladder.  Absolutely worth residents reporting breaches and supported by photographic evidence.  I am just waiting for a call back for the enforcement officer in charge as to the details of exactly where to report breaches.  Remind me about the report submitted by residents on this with a link if possible and I can can follow it up.

Thanks and sorry, but don't understand your last line.

You refer to a report submitted by residents in your post - I am not sure I have seen sight of it but am happy to chase it up if there has been no response.

I think Hugh means any future report.

I do, John, yes.

The problem is , even if CCTV vehicles capture footage of overweight vehicles entering the restricted area, the drivers will simply say that they required access to premises in that area out of sight of the CCTV vehicle. Will companies who receive a PCN be required to produce evidence of that need for access?

Could we set up an emailbox to tweet/email photos to, via this site?

I'm sure I can pretty easily automate a mail being sent to the appropriate council address, cc anyone who wants, from a dedicated HoL email address, triggered by either an email to that mail address (say 7.5treport@harringayonline.com) or by a tweet including an agreed Twitter hashtag (say 7.5treport). But I'm wondering whether the email route is best, because until people are sure what's a 7.5t and what's not, we might end up encouraging unfair public naming and shaming.

Even better, we can just add a thread or category on the site for people to upload reports. Someone, (perhaps Karen?), could update the Council weekly. At least that way we have a shared record and Karen can let us know what action the Council is taking on each report.

That's a good idea, a shared record. It can also help to educate us all on what 7.5t vehicles are, and what to look out for.

Anything with the reflective stripes on the back is over 7.5t.

A vehicle of mgw 7.5 T or more will carry these markings at the rear.
